Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

Dermi 5+ cream contains clobetasol, gentamicin, ketoconazole and iodochlorhydroxyquinoline. Clobetasol is a steroid, it blocks the production of certain chemical substances in the body (prostaglandins) which cause itching, swelling and redness. Gentamicin is an antibiotic and it inhibits the growth and multiplication of bacteria causing infection. Ketoconazole interferes with the cell membranes of fungi, thus stopping their growth and eventually causing its death. Iodochlorhydroxyquinoline (also called Clioquinol) reduces skin infections caused by bacteria. It inhibits certain enzymes involved in DNA synthesis of bacteria resulting in the death of bacteria. It is also effective against some fungal skin infections.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Dermi 5+ cream is applied externally on the skin, it is less likely to interact with other medicines which are taken orally. It interacts with other topically applied creams, lotion and gel. Discuss with the doctor if you are using other topical gel or cream.
  • It must be used with caution along with ritonavir (used in HIV infection) and itraconazole (used to treat fungal infections), as it may increase the risk of having side effects.
