Other General Warnings

• You experience any skin allergies or a rise in blood sugar levels.
• You have diabetes.
• You have a history of muscle weakness due to steroid therapy or have a condition called myasthenia gravis.
• You experience mood disturbances, fits, and other psychiatric problems like suicidal thoughts after taking Demisone tablet.
• You are taking any medicines to suppress the immune response.
• You are elderly.
• You have heart disorders, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, blood clotting problems, liver or kidney diseases, and stomach or intestine problems.
• You experience visual disturbances and eye infections after taking this medicine.
• You have osteoporosis (weakening of bones).
• You are suffering from an infection like fungal infection, measles, or chickenpox.
• You are trying to conceive or taking any fertility treatment.
• Children and adolescents consuming steroids should be observed for growth abnormalities as steroids can retard growth.

• Take Demisone tablet as directed by your doctor.
• This medicine should be taken with food or after food.
• It should be swallowed whole with a glass of water. Do not break, cut or chew it.
• Take at a fixed time for optimal results.
• Do not consume more than the dose prescribed by the doctor.

• Store Demisone tablet at room temperature away from moisture.
• Keep it out of reach of children and pets.

• Demisone Tablet is a potent steroid; the small tablet strength reflects its strength, not a small effect.
• Never stop this medicine suddenly after more than a short course; the dose must be reduced gradually.
• Take it in the morning with or just after food to reduce stomach upset and sleep disturbance.
• Carry a steroid card at all times and show it to any doctor, dentist or surgeon.
• Tell your doctor promptly about fever, sore throat, cough or any sign of infection, which steroids can mask.
• Avoid contact with chickenpox or measles if you have never had them, and seek advice if exposed.
• Monitor your blood sugar more closely if you have diabetes, as levels will usually rise.
• Reduce salt and sugar, and be deliberate about portions, since appetite and fluid retention both increase.
• Ensure enough calcium, vitamin D and weight-bearing activity to protect your bones on longer courses.
• Avoid ibuprofen and similar painkillers, which add to the risk of stomach ulcers.
• Report mood changes, and seek urgent help for any thoughts of self-harm.
• Have your blood pressure, blood sugar and eyes checked as your doctor advises.

Interactions with other medicines

• Some medicines can affect the way Demisone tablet works or Demisone tablet itself can reduce the effectiveness of other medicines taken at the same time.
• Tell your doctor about all the medicines, supplements, or herbals you are currently taking or might take to avoid any possible interaction.
• Concomitant use of Demisone tablets with contraceptives can prolong the effect of this medicine.
• Antacids containing salts of aluminium and magnesium should be used after a gap of 2 hours with Demisone tablet.
• Medicines used for the treatment of tuberculosis (rifampicin), fits/seizures (phenytoin, carbamazepine), and breathing problems (ephedrine) can reduce the effect of Demisone tablet. Antifungal medicines such as ketoconazole and itraconazole can increase the effectiveness of Demisone tablet if taken together.
• Medicines used to treat high blood pressure such as enalapril and captopril when used with this medicine can lead to variations in blood count.
• Medicines used to treat heart failure such as digoxin when used together with Demisone tablet can reduce the potassium levels in the body.
• Demisone tablet can reduce the blood-glucose-lowering action of anti-diabetic medicines and the anticoagulant effect of blood thinner medicines like coumarin.
• Painkillers such as aspirin and indomethacin when taken along with this medicine can increase the risk of ulcers and bleeding in the digestive tract.
• The muscle relaxing effect of muscle relaxants is prolonged when taken along with Demisone tablet.
• Atropine or other medicines used to dilate pupils can increase pressure inside your eyes if used with this medicine.
• Medicines used to suppress immune responses such as cyclosporin can increase the risk of getting infections if taken along with Demisone tablet.
• This medicine should not be taken within 8 weeks if you have received any live vaccine.

Interactions with food items

• Take Demisone Tablet with or just after food. Steroids irritate the stomach lining, and taking the tablet on an empty stomach makes indigestion considerably more likely.
• Reduce salt. Corticosteroids promote salt and water retention, which raises blood pressure and causes swelling, so limit pickles, papads, packaged snacks, processed foods and added table salt.
• Watch sugar and refined carbohydrate closely. Steroids push blood glucose up, and this is one of the most consistent effects of treatment. If you have diabetes, monitor more frequently from the day you start.
• Ensure adequate calcium and vitamin D through milk, curd, paneer, ragi, sesame, green leafy vegetables and safe sun exposure, since steroids reduce calcium absorption and thin the bones over time.
• Include good protein sources such as dal, eggs, fish, chicken and paneer, as steroids can waste muscle with longer use.
• Limit alcohol, which adds to stomach irritation and raises both blood sugar and blood pressure.
