Medical Description
Demisone tablet is a corticosteroid used to treat various inflammatory conditions, allergies and autoimmune conditions. It is also used to manage symptoms of certain types of cancer. Demisone tablet contains dexamethasone as its active ingredient that acts by reducing the formation of inflammation-causing substances in the body. A few more tablets that also contain dexamethasone are Decdan 0.5mg tablet, Dexacron 0.5mg tablet, Dexona tablet and Dexacip 0.5mg tablet.
Demisone tablets can be taken with food or after food and should preferably be taken at the same time every day. Take this medicine in the exact dose and duration as recommended by your doctor. It should be avoided by pregnant women and should be given to children under medical supervision. Long-term therapy should be avoided in children. Do not stop taking Demisone tablets without consulting your doctor.

- Demisone tablet is used for the treatment of various inflammatory conditions, allergies (eczema, erythroderma), lung disorders (asthma) and autoimmune disorders.
- It is used for relieving pain and inflammation in different body parts due to various conditions like arthritis.

- You experience any skin allergies or a rise in blood sugar levels.
- You have diabetes.
- You have a history of muscle weakness due to steroid therapy or have a condition called myasthenia gravis.
- You experience mood disturbances, fits, and other psychiatric problems like suicidal thoughts after taking Demisone tablet.
- You are taking any medicines to suppress the immune response.
- You are elderly.
- You have heart disorders, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, blood clotting problems, liver or kidney diseases, and stomach or intestine problems.
- You experience visual disturbances and eye infections after taking this medicine.
- You have osteoporosis (weakening of bones).
- You are suffering from an infection like fungal infection, measles, or chickenpox.
- You are trying to conceive or taking any fertility treatment.
- Children and adolescents consuming steroids should be observed for growth abnormalities as steroids can retard growth.
Directions for Use
- Take Demisone tablet as directed by your doctor.
- This medicine should be taken with food or after food.
- It should be swallowed whole with a glass of water. Do not break, cut or chew it.
- Take at a fixed time for optimal results.
- Do not consume more than the dose prescribed by the doctor.

Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Some medicines can affect the way Demisone tablet works or Demisone tablet itself can reduce the effectiveness of other medicines taken at the same time.
- Tell your doctor about all the medicines, supplements, or herbals you are currently taking or might take to avoid any possible interaction.
- Concomitant use of Demisone tablets with contraceptives can prolong the effect of this medicine.
- Antacids containing salts of aluminium and magnesium should be used after a gap of 2 hours with Demisone tablet.
- Medicines used for the treatment of tuberculosis (rifampicin), fits/seizures (phenytoin, carbamazepine), and breathing problems (ephedrine) can reduce the effect of Demisone tablet. Antifungal medicines such as ketoconazole and itraconazole can increase the effectiveness of Demisone tablet if taken together.
- Medicines used to treat high blood pressure such as enalapril and captopril when used with this medicine can lead to variations in blood count.
- Medicines used to treat heart failure such as digoxin when used together with Demisone tablet can reduce the potassium levels in the body.
- Demisone tablet can reduce the blood-glucose-lowering action of anti-diabetic medicines and the anticoagulant effect of blood thinner medicines like coumarin.
- Painkillers such as aspirin and indomethacin when taken along with this medicine can increase the risk of ulcers and bleeding in the digestive tract.
- The muscle relaxing effect of muscle relaxants is prolonged when taken along with Demisone tablet.
- Atropine or other medicines used to dilate pupils can increase pressure inside your eyes if used with this medicine.
- Medicines used to suppress immune responses such as cyclosporin can increase the risk of getting infections if taken along with Demisone tablet.
- This medicine should not be taken within 8 weeks if you have received any live vaccine.
