Medical Description
Cordarone X tablet is an antiarrhythmic medicine used for the treatment of the type of Arrhythmias (a condition of irregular or uneven heart rhythm). It contains Amiodarone as an active ingredient that acts by reducing the excitability of cardiac muscles and stabilizes heart rhythm. You should take the medicine as advised by the doctor for the duration it is prescribed for. Tell the doctor if you have a pre-existing condition and discuss detailed medical history before initiating the treatment with the medicine.

- If you are allergic to amiodarone or iodine or any other ingredients of Cordarone X tablet.
- If you are suffering from any heart problems.
- If you are suffering from thyroid gland dysfunction. It is advisable to perform thyroid function tests before therapy.
- If you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant.
- If you are a breastfeeding mother.

Other General Warnings
- You have any pre-existing health conditions such as heart disorder, liver problem, asthma or other lung diseases, eyesight problems, etc.
- You have problems with your thyroid gland. Keep monitoring the thyroid levels every 6-months.
- You have Stevens-Johnson syndrome (peeling or blistering of the skin, fever and flu-like symptoms).
- You experience a severe skin rash, muscle pain, fever, chills.
- You are above 65 years of age.
- If you experience breathlessness or dry cough, then inform the doctor immediately as it may be associated with pulmonary toxicity.
- Inform your anaesthetist about your medications before undergoing any surgical procedures.
- Avoid skin exposure to the sun and use sun-protective measures during treatment with amiodarone.
- Cordarone X tablet must not be used in patients below the age of 18 years.
Directions for Use
- Take Cordarone X tablet exactly as directed by your doctor.
- Swallow it whole with a glass of water. Do not cut, break or chew the medicine.
- It should be taken in doses and frequency as prescribed by your doctor and should not be taken for a duration longer than prescribed.

- It is important to strictly abide by the dose prescribed by your doctor. In case of accidental overdose, it may lead to liver injury, slowing of heartbeats, heart block leading to a fall in blood pressure and you may experience symptoms like dizziness, unconsciousness, confusion.
- If you experience any of the symptoms or think you have taken too much of this medicine, then contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.
Missed a Dose
- If you missed any dose of medicine, then take it as soon as you remember.
- If it's time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule.
- Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

Interactions with other medicines
- Cordarone X tablet may interact with other medicines if taken at the same time. Discuss with your doctor about all the medicines, supplements or herbal preparations you are taking. Also, inform your doctor if you have a planned surgery or a vaccination scheduled.
- In particular, if you are taking medicines such as heart-related medicines, anti-hypertensive medicines, antibiotics like erythromycin, anti-malarial medicines like quinine, medicines used to treat psychiatric illness like chlorpromazine, haloperidol, medicines used to treat hepatitis C etc.
- Other medicines that should be used with caution are cholesterol-lowering medicines like simvastatin, medicines used in constipation like senna, anti-fungal medicines, water pills, etc.
- Concurrent use of midazolam, lidocaine, warfarin, immunosuppressants, sildenafil etc. should be used cautiously with Cordarone X tablet.
Interactions with food items
- Consuming grapefruit juice while on treatment with Cordarone X tablet increases the chances of getting side effects.
