Medical Description

Colimex drops is a paediatric medicine. It is used to ease stomach and abdominal pain (cramps) and relieve symptoms of bloating and excess gas. Colimex oral drops are a combination of two medicines, namely dicycloverine and simethicone. Dicycloverine relaxes the muscles of the gastrointestinal tract and relieves pain. Simethicone helps in releasing the gas and prevents discomfort associated with gas and bloating. This medicine should be used under adults supervision.

If your child is allergic to dicycloverine, simethicone or any other ingredients of the Colimex drops.
Colimex oral drops are not to be given to infants under 6 months of age.

Your child has or is suspected to have an eye condition, this medicine needs to be given cautiously.
Your child has an enlarged prostate gland, then this medicine needs to be given cautiously.
Your child has a hernia in the stomach, this medicine should be given with precautions as this drug may aggravate the condition.

Directions for Use

Give the Colimex oral drops as advised by your doctor.
Fill enclosed dropper to the recommended dosage level and dispense liquid slowly into baby's mouth.
Dosage can also be mixed with a cup of cool water, infant formula or other suitable liquids.
Clean dropper well after each use and replace the original cap. Shake it well before every use.

Storage and disposal

Store Colimex drops in a cool dry place. Protect it from direct sunlight.
Keep it away from the reach of children and pets.

The symptoms of an overdose of Colimex drops may include headache, dizziness, nausea, a dry mouth, difficulty in swallowing, and dilated pupils. If you think you have given your child more than the prescribed dose, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you have missed taking any dose of Colimex drops, give it as soon as you remember to your child. If it's time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose of this medicine to compensate for the missed one. Do not exceed the daily dose of 20ml.

Interactions with other drugs

Effect

Taking Colimex oral drops with Domperidone can reduce Domperidone's benefit, because Colimex oral drops slow the gut while Domperidone tries to move it along. Nausea and bloating may stay poorly controlled.

Advice

Mention both medicines to your doctor so the timing can be managed. They may choose only the one that fits your symptoms.

Effect

Taking Colimex oral drops with Metoclopramide sets the two against each other, because Colimex oral drops calm gut squeezing while Metoclopramide tries to speed it up. Neither may then control your symptoms well.

Advice

Let your doctor know you take both so they can decide which effect you need. They may separate the doses or pick just one.

Effect

Taking Colimex oral drops with the bladder medicine Oxybutynin can add together to worsen dry mouth, constipation and blurred vision. It can also make it harder to empty the bladder.

Tell your doctor if you use Oxybutynin before taking Colimex oral drops. Report a bloated bladder, constipation, or blurred vision.

Effect

Taking Colimex oral drops with Atropine can strongly combine their drying actions on the body. This makes a dry mouth, fast heartbeat, blurred vision and trouble passing urine more likely.

These drying medicines are best not combined unless a doctor directs it. Watch for a racing heart, flushing, or difficulty passing urine and seek advice.

Effect

Taking Colimex oral drops with the antidepressant Amitriptyline can add their drying effects together, bringing on a dry mouth, blurred vision and constipation. In babies and young children this drying effect can be dangerous.

Never give Colimex oral drops to infants under 6 months, and tell the doctor about every medicine being taken. Report a dry mouth, no urine, or unusual drowsiness at once.
