Ramipril, a prodrug, belongs to the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor class of medicines. It gets metabolized to ramiprilat, which is a competitive inhibitor of ACE, the enzyme responsible for the conversion of angiotensin I (ATI) to angiotensin II (ATII).
