Dosage

Overdose

Too much of this medicine can cause a very slow heartbeat, dizziness or fainting. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

Blood pressure medicines work best when taken regularly. If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it's time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Betaloc contains metoprolol, which blocks the effect of stress chemicals such as adrenaline on the heart. This slows the heart rate and lets the heart beat with less force, which lowers blood pressure and reduces the heart's workload. Steadier, calmer heart activity helps ease chest pain and keep the heartbeat regular.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Betaloc works, and Betaloc can affect how other medicines work. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins or herbal products you are taking or have recently taken. In particular, let your doctor know if you take other heart or blood pressure medicines, medicines for diabetes, medicines that control the heart rhythm, or certain cold and allergy remedies.
