Medical Description

Atr RM Tablets are used with diet and lifestyle measures to manage high cholesterol and high triglycerides, lower high blood pressure, and reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke. They contain a combination of atorvastatin and ramipril. Atorvastatin lowers harmful blood fats, while ramipril relaxes blood vessels and reduces pressure against the heart. These conditions may have no obvious symptoms, so Atr tablets should be taken by mouth exactly as prescribed even when you feel well. They are swallowed whole with water and may be taken with or without food.

Uses

  • High cholesterol: Atorvastatin lowers harmful cholesterol in the blood, helping reduce fatty build-up in blood vessels and future heart complications.
  • High triglycerides: Atorvastatin reduces excess blood fats that can increase the risk of heart disease and inflammation of the pancreas.
  • Heart attack prevention: Lowering cholesterol and reducing blood pressure can help reduce the chance of a future heart attack in people at risk.
  • Stroke prevention: Better control of blood fats and blood pressure helps reduce the chance of blood vessel blockage leading to stroke.
  • High blood pressure: Ramipril relaxes narrowed blood vessels, helping lower pressure and reduce the strain placed on the heart over time.

Precautions and Warnings

Pregnancy

Pregnancy

Do not use Atr RM Tablets during pregnancy. Ramipril can harm the unborn baby, and atorvastatin should not be used during pregnancy. Tell your doctor immediately if you become pregnant.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

Do not breastfeed while taking Atr RM Tablets unless your doctor specifically advises it. Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding so a suitable treatment can be chosen.

Driving

Driving

Dizziness or faintness may occur, particularly after starting or changing treatment. Do not drive or use machinery until you know how Atr RM Tablets affect you.

Alcohol

Alcohol

Limit alcohol because it may worsen dizziness and can increase the chance of liver-related problems with atorvastatin.

Directions for Use

Take this medicine as a whole with sufficient water. Atr RM Tablets may be taken with or without food. Swallow the tablet without chewing, crushing or breaking it, and take it at the time advised by your doctor. Do not stop long-term treatment without medical advice, even if you feel well.

Storage and disposal

Store Atr RM Tablets at room temperature in the original pack, away from moisture, heat and direct sunlight. Keep it out of reach of children. Do not use tablets after the expiry date. Return unused medicine through an appropriate medicine-disposal service rather than placing it where children can find it.

Quick Tips

  • Continue a heart-healthy eating plan with less saturated fat and salt.
  • Keep follow-up appointments for blood pressure, cholesterol, kidney function and other tests advised by your doctor.
  • Report new muscle pain, weakness or dark urine promptly.
  • Rise slowly from sitting or lying down if you feel light-headed.
  • Avoid grapefruit products and limit alcohol unless your doctor says otherwise.
  • Do not stop Atr RM Tablets just because you feel well.

Dosage

Overdose

Taking too much may cause marked dizziness, fainting, weakness or a fast heartbeat. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Atorvastatin blocks an enzyme the liver uses to make cholesterol, lowering low-density cholesterol and triglycerides and improving the balance of blood fats. Ramipril is changed in the body into a substance that blocks a chemical that tightens blood vessels. The blood vessels relax, blood pressure falls and the heart works against less pressure.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Atr RM Tablets works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, tell your doctor about atazanavir and other medicines for human immunodeficiency virus infection, bezafibrate and other fibrates, imatinib, posaconazole and other antifungal medicines, ciclosporin, potassium supplements or potassium-containing salt substitutes, water tablets that raise potassium, lithium, painkillers such as ibuprofen, other blood-pressure medicines and medicines that affect atorvastatin. These combinations may increase muscle problems, change atorvastatin levels, lower blood pressure too much, or raise potassium and kidney risks.

Interactions with food items

Grapefruit or grapefruit juice can increase atorvastatin exposure and the chance of muscle problems. Avoid large amounts unless your doctor says they are suitable.
