Medical Description

Ascodex Junior Ls Bottle Of 15ml Drops is a prescription medicine used to treat productive cough (cough with mucus) and Bronchospasm. It acts by thinning out mucus in the throat, pharynx, and lungs to make coughing easier. Runny nose, sneezing, itching, and watery eyes are also relieved. Cough is the body's natural way of expelling any substance that is irritating your throat. Nerves are stimulated by irritation, which sends a message to your brain. This activates your brain's cough centre, causing you to cough. A wet (productive) cough occurs when mucus (thick, sticky fluid) is present with the cough. Bronchospasm is a condition that occurs when the muscles around the bronchi (airway tubes) spasm (contract), resulting in reduced airflow to the lungs. Ascodex Junior Ls Bottle Of 15ml Drops contains three medications, Levosalbutamol, Ambroxol and Guaifenesin. Dizziness, change in taste, vomiting, diarrhoea, rashes, and headache are the most common side effects of Ascodex Junior Ls. The majority of the symptoms are only transient and will pass with time. If you have any concerns about any of these side effects or if they persist for a longer time, contact your doctor immediately. This medication can make you sleepy. Do not drive or do anything else that demands mental focus until you know how it affects you. Alcohol should be avoided when taking this medication because it can make sleepiness worse. Ascodex Junior LS Drops can be taken with or without food, according to your doctor's advice. The dose of Ascodex Junior LS Drops will be determined by your doctor based on your medical condition and how you react to the medication. You should continue to take this medication for as long as your doctor advises. If you stop taking Ascodex Junior LS Drops too soon, symptoms may return, and your condition may deteriorate. Tell your doctor about all other medications you're taking, as some may interact with or be affected by this one. Never advocate for self-medication or suggest that someone else use your medication. It is critical to drink enough water while taking this medication. Before starting on Ascodex Junior LS Drops, contact your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Consult your doctor if you have a kidney or liver problem so that a suitable dose can be provided.

Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

Ascodex Junior Ls Drops contain three medications, Levosalbutamol, Ambroxol, and Guaifenesin. Levosalbutamol acts by relaxing the smooth muscle in the trachea to the terminal bronchioles to increase airflow and relieve acute shortness of breath. Ambroxol's main mechanism of action is to stimulate surfactant synthesis. Ambroxol has effective mucokinetic and secretagogue properties. It promotes mucus clearance, facilitating expectancy, and easing productive cough. Guaifenesin helps in the expectoration/coughing up of mucus by loosening and thinning phlegm and bronchial secretions. Guaifenesin improves the efficiency of the mucociliary mechanism in clearing accumulated secretions from the upper and lower airways by decreasing the viscosity and adhesiveness of secretions.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Tricyclic antidepressants like Imipramine may increase cardiovascular side effects such as heart palpitations, chest pain, irregular heartbeat, increased heart and pulse rates, and blood pressure elevations.

  • Anaesthetic agents like Halothane can increase the risk of an irregular heart rhythm that may be serious and potentially life-threatening.
  • Antidepressant medication of the class of serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors like Duloxetine can increase blood pressure and heart rate, and combining them may enhance these effects.
  • Diuretic medication like Furosemide may increase the risk of developing hypokalemia or low blood potassium.

  • Caffeine-containing foods or drinks, such as tea, coffee, chocolate, and cocoa, should not be consumed with Ascodex Junior Ls Drops as they decrease the efficacy of Ascodex Junior Ls Drops.
