Medical Description
Ascabiol Emulsion is a treatment specifically for scabies, a skin condition caused by a mite. The emulsion contains a combination of cetrimide and gamma benzene hexachloride as its active ingredients. It is intended for use in patients who cannot tolerate other treatments or who have not responded to other approved medications.
This medicine should not be used to treat any skin conditions other than what your doctor has prescribed. Ascabiol Skin Emulsion is for external use only. Do not use more of the medicine or apply it more frequently than directed.
Particular caution is advised when using Ascabiol Skin Emulsion in infants, children, the elderly, individuals with other skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis or psoriasis, and those who weigh less than 50 kg.
Uses
Contraindications
- If you are allergic to cetrimide, gamma benzene hexachloride or any of the other ingredients of Ascabiol Skin Emulsion.
- In body cavities like the mouth or ear or as an enema (a treatment to clean the bowel).
- If you are using Ascabiol Skin Emulsion near the eyes and middle ear and surrounding areas.
- If you are using this medicine in premature infants.
- If you have crusted (Norwegian) scabies and other skin conditions (atopic dermatitis, psoriasis).
- If you have a known uncontrolled seizure/fits disorder.

- You accidentally swallow this medicine.
- You develop local skin reactions like inflammation of the skin.
- You take medicines to help you sleep.
Directions for Use
- Use Ascabiol Skin Emulsion as directed by your doctor.
- This medicine is for external use only.
- Apply it on a healthy skin surface free from cuts and wounds.
- Wash your hands before and after using this medicine unless your hands are the area to be treated.
- In case your eyes come in contact with this medicine, rinse your eyes with clean water immediately.
Storage and disposal
- Store Ascabiol Skin Emulsion at 20°C - 25°C.
- Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.

- Ascabiol Skin Emulsion can cause redness, burning, rash, headache, or itching. However, not everyone who uses this has these side effects.
- If your symptoms do not improve after a few weeks of using the Emulsion, consult your doctor.

How Does It Work?
- Ascabiol Skin Emulsion contains cetrimide and gamma benzene hexachloride as active substances.
- Cetrimide is an antiseptic medicine that kills or stops the growth of microorganisms that cause scabies.
- Gamma benzene hexachloride is an anti-parasitic medicine that gets directly absorbed into the parasites and their ova (mature female reproductive cell) and kills the scabies-causing parasite.

Interactions with other medicines
- Since Ascabiol Skin Emulsion is to be used externally on the skin, it is less likely to interact with other medicines.
- However, always consult your doctor if you are taking other medicines for treating other health conditions.
- Particular care should be taken if you are taking medicines like antipsychotics, antidepressants, theophylline (used to treat asthma/chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), cyclosporine, mycophenolate mofetil, tacrolimus (used to prevent organ rejection after a transplant), penicillins, imipenem, quinolone antibiotics (used for the treatment of bacterial infections), chloroquine (used to treat and prevent malaria), pyrimethamine (used to treat toxoplasmosis), isoniazid (used for the treatment of tuberculosis), meperidine (used to treat pain), methocarbamol (used to relax muscles) and centrally active anticholinesterases.
- Radiographic contrast agents when used with Ascabiol Skin Emulsion may increase the chance of seizures/fits.
