Medical Description

Anca V vaginal capsule is a combination medicine used to treat certain bacterial and fungal vaginal infections associated with abnormal discharge. It contains clindamycin, an antibiotic that slows susceptible bacteria, and clotrimazole, an antifungal that damages the outer covering of fungal cells. Together, they reduce the microorganisms causing some vaginal infections, but discharge needs medical assessment because different causes need different treatment. Anca V capsule is inserted into the vagina only and should be used exactly as directed by a doctor.

Uses

  • Mixed bacterial and fungal vaginal infection: This combination targets susceptible bacteria and fungi when a clinician has identified or suspected both types of infection.
  • Bacterial vaginal infection: Clindamycin helps slow susceptible bacteria that can contribute to abnormal discharge and local discomfort.
  • Fungal vaginal infection: Clotrimazole helps control fungal overgrowth associated with itching, soreness or abnormal discharge.
  • Abnormal vaginal discharge from infection: Treating the underlying susceptible bacteria or fungi may reduce discharge after the cause has been assessed.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, including clindamycin or clotrimazole, do not use it. Tell your doctor if you previously developed severe diarrhoea, bloody stools, bowel inflammation or severe abdominal cramps after an antibiotic, or if you have serious intestinal disease. Do not use Anca V capsule for unexplained discharge without medical assessment.

Side effects

  • Itching: Local irritation from the vaginal capsule may cause new or increased itching. Stop and contact your doctor if it is severe or accompanied by swelling.
  • Burning: Clotrimazole or the capsule base may cause a burning feeling after insertion. Seek care if burning is severe or does not settle.
  • Irritation: The treated vaginal tissues may feel sore or irritated. Avoid further applications and contact your doctor if pain or swelling worsens.
  • Pain while passing urine: Local inflammation can make urination uncomfortable. Seek medical advice if pain persists or comes with fever or back pain.
  • Diarrhoea: Clindamycin can disturb bowel bacteria during or after treatment. Seek urgent care for frequent watery stools, blood or severe cramps.

If a large amount is used or swallowed accidentally, seek urgent medical help. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

The clindamycin component slows susceptible bacteria by interfering with their ability to make proteins needed for growth. The clotrimazole component damages the outer covering of fungal cells, making it harder for them to survive and multiply. Together, the two components act locally against bacterial and fungal contributors to some vaginal infections.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Anca V capsule works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, tell the doctor if you use medicines that relax muscles before surgery, such as atracurium or vecuronium, because clindamycin may increase their muscle-relaxing effect.
