Medical Description

Alupec suspension is used to relieve excess stomach acid, heartburn, indigestion, stomach ulcer-related irritation and bloating. It contains aluminium, which neutralises excess acid, and dimethicone, which helps trapped gas bubbles join and pass more easily. This combination can reduce acid-related discomfort and bloating but does not treat every cause of continuing pain or an ulcer. Alupec suspension is shaken and measured before it is taken by mouth with or after food. A doctor may prescribe it alongside other medicines when an ulcer needs treatment for its underlying cause.

Uses

  • Acidity and heartburn: The ingredient aluminium neutralises excess stomach acid, helping reduce burning discomfort and acid-related indigestion.
  • Stomach ulcers: The suspension reduces acid that can irritate an ulcer while the underlying cause is managed with any additional treatment prescribed.
  • Bloating relief: Gas trapped in the digestive tract can cause pressure and fullness; dimethicone helps disperse these bubbles, making them easier to move out.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, do not use it. Tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, severe constipation, bowel obstruction or ongoing stomach pain. Do not use it repeatedly for persistent symptoms without medical advice.

Side effects

  • Constipation: Aluminium can slow bowel movement and make stools harder. Increase suitable fluids and fibre if allowed, and seek care if you cannot pass stool or develop severe pain.
  • Diarrhoea: Changes in bowel movement may cause loose stools. Replace lost fluids and get medical advice if diarrhoea is severe or you cannot keep fluids down.
  • Chalky taste: The aluminium ingredient may leave a powdery taste after use. Rinse your mouth and ask a pharmacist if the taste prevents regular use.

Precautions and Warnings

Pregnancy

Pregnancy

Safety during pregnancy has not been established. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or think you may be pregnant, and use Alupec suspension only when your doctor considers it necessary.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

Available human information suggests that very little reaches breast milk and harm to the infant is unlikely. Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding before using Alupec suspension.

Driving

Driving

Alupec suspension does not usually affect driving. Do not drive if stomach discomfort or another symptom makes you feel unwell or unable to concentrate.

Alcohol

Alcohol

Alcohol may worsen acidity and heartburn. Ask your doctor whether alcohol should be avoided while you are using this suspension.

Directions for Use

Shake well before use. Use the measuring cup supplied with the pack and do not drink directly from the bottle. Take Alupec suspension by mouth with or after food as advised. Keep it separate from other medicines when your doctor or pharmacist advises this because it may affect absorption.

Storage and disposal

Store Alupec suspension in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep the bottle tightly closed and out of the reach of children. Do not use it after the expiry date. Ask a pharmacist about disposal of unused suspension.

Quick Tips

  • Shake Alupec suspension well before every use and measure it with the supplied device.
  • Keep a gap from other medicines when advised because aluminium may reduce their absorption.
  • Choose fibre-rich foods and suitable fluids if constipation develops.
  • Reduce oily or spicy foods if they trigger acidity.
  • Seek medical advice for persistent pain, vomiting, black stools or difficulty swallowing.

Dosage

Overdose

Too much suspension may cause constipation, diarrhoea or mineral-related problems, especially in kidney disease. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

The ingredient aluminium neutralises excess acid in the stomach, which can reduce heartburn and irritation of an ulcer. The ingredient dimethicone changes the surface of gas bubbles so they join and pass more easily. Together, the ingredients relieve acid-related discomfort and bloating but do not remove every possible cause of these symptoms.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Alupec suspension works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, aluminium can reduce absorption of some antibiotics, thyroid medicines, iron supplements and other oral medicines. Ask your doctor or pharmacist how to separate this suspension from each affected treatment.

Interactions with food items

No specific food interaction is established. Taking Alupec suspension with or after food follows the product instructions, while oily or spicy foods may worsen acidity.
