Alerid Syrup
Description
Alerid syrup is a medication used to provide relief from various allergic conditions. It contains the active ingredient cetirizine, which is an anti-allergic medicine belonging to the antihistamine group. This medicine is used to treat symptoms associated with dust or pet allergies, such as sneezing, itchy, runny or blocked nose, red and watery eyes, swelling, redness, and itchiness of the skin, insect bites, and hives. By blocking histamine, a natural chemical substance in your body responsible for allergic reactions, Alerid syrup helps to alleviate these discomforting symptoms.
The dosage of Alerid syrup is variable, particularly in children, and is based on their age group. The syrup should be taken as instructed by your doctor, using a measuring cup, spoon, or dropper for the exact quantity after shaking well. It is typically prescribed for a short duration or as needed; you should not take it for more than 7 days unless specifically advised by your doctor. If your symptoms persist even after 3 to 4 days of taking this medicine, it is important to consult your doctor rather than continuing to take it endlessly on your own.
Common side effects include sleepiness, drowsiness, headache, and dizziness. Therefore, you should avoid activities like driving or operating machinery after taking this medicine. Alcohol consumption should also be avoided as it can worsen these side effects. Inform your doctor about your complete medical history, especially if you have kidney or bladder problems, or a history of fits (epilepsy). It is also important to tell your doctor about all the medicines, supplements, or herbal products you are currently taking to avoid any potential interactions.
Alerid syrup is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding unless explicitly advised by a doctor, as it passes into breast milk. If you develop any severe side effects like a rash, breathing difficulty, or itching immediately after consumption, you should seek immediate medical help. Overdose may lead to symptoms such as confusion, rapid heartbeat, tremor, or urinary retention, and in such a case, you should contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.
Cetzine syrup, Zyrtec syrup, and Cetcip syrup are some other medicines containing cetirizine.
