Agoprex is a prescription medication. It is an antidepressant medication. The active component of Agoprex is called Agomelatine. Depression is a medical condition characterised by low mood. Patien
ts present with complaints like feeling low, decreased motivation, feelings of hopelessness and dread, loss of interest in daily activities, and irregular sleep (difficulty in falling asleep or waking up, disturbed sleep), which can severely affect daily life. Multiple brain pathways and chemical messengers are indicated in depression. Antidepressant medications target these pathways and neurotransmitters to help relieve the symptoms of depression. Agomelatine is an antidepressant that acts on a specific neurotransmitter called Melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone that is indicated in the regulation of Circadian rhythms (24-hour internal cycle) and sleep-wake cycle. The medication should be taken as recommended by the doctor. It should not be abruptly started or stopped. Taking the tablet at the same time every day is advisable for maximum efficacy.

- According to CDSCO, Agoprex is used in the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder.
Contraindications of Agoprex 25 MG
- Hypersensitivity reactions – avoid using this medication in case of hypersensitivity reactions to these medications/inactive ingredients.
- This medication should not be used in patients with liver diseases.
- This medication should not be used in children and adolescents under the age of 18 years
- It is not recommended to be used in the adults over the age of 75 years.

- Swallow this medication as a whole. Do not crush, chew, or break this tablet.
- It is recommended to finish the full course of this medication as prescribed by your treating doctor.

- In case of worsening of your symptoms such as persistent low mood, increased anxieties, worsening of obsessive behaviour, suicidal ideation, consult your doctor immediately.

Interactions with other medicines
- The concomitant use with medications like fluvoxamine, ciprofloxacin, and oestrogen is contraindicated, as these medicines inhibit the enzyme that metabolises Agomelatine, thereby increasing its exposure by several times. This produces undesirable effects....
- This medication should not be taken with Rifampicin as it decreases the effect of Agoprex.
