Molecule Description

Testosterone is a hormone naturally present in your body and is responsible for maintaining reproductive health, fertility, bone, and muscle mass in men. Its deficiency can be confirmed through some lab tests and symptoms like reduced sex drive, infertility, impotence, hair loss, and weak bones and muscles. Your doctor will prescribe the appropriate dose of this medicine based on your body's needs. Do not take this medicine without your doctor's advice, as it may cause serious health problems.

  • Impotence caused by hormonal disorders.
  • Infertility caused due to an insufficient number of sperms.

  • After removal of testicles (castration or a similar problem called eunuchoidism).

  • You suffer from kidney or lung cancer.
  • You suffer from a heart, kidney or liver disease.
  • You have high blood pressure.
  • You are diabetic.
  • You have a complaint of migraine, headaches or fits.
  • You have difficulty passing urine.
  • You suffer from blood clotting problems - an abnormality of blood coagulation that increases the risk of blood clots in blood vessels (thrombophilia).
  • You have risk factors that increase your risk for blood clots in a vein or previous history of clots in vein habits like smoking, obesity, immobility. If one of your immediate family has had a blood clot in the leg, lung or another organ.
  • You are below 18 years of age.
  • You have to participate in a sports event, this medicine gives a positive DOPE test.
  • Do not use this medicine without the doctor's prescription as overuse or misuse may lead to serious health issues and dependence.
  • Sudden stopping of this medicine may lead to withdrawal symptoms, do not stop this medicine without the doctor's advice.

How Does It Work?

When there is a deficiency of naturally occurring testosterone in the body, Testosterone helps in maintaining its normal levels by providing the required amount of testosterone hormone to overcome the deficiency symptoms like impotence, infertility, reduced sex drive, tiredness, mood swings and loss of bone and muscle mass.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Concomitant use of following medicines may decrease the action of Testosterone-
  • Insulin or other medicines for diabetes.
  • Medicines called blood thinners (warfarin, ecosprin).
  • Blood levels of the following medicines can be affected when given along with testosterone-
  • Antibiotics such as rifampicin.
  • Medicines for fits (barbiturates, carbamazepine, dichloralphenazone, phenylbutazone,
  • phenytoin and primidone).
  • Medicines containing steroids or other hormones (prednisolone, hydrocortisone) should be given judiciously as concomitant use may lead to increased water retention in the body.
  • Discuss with your doctor about any other medicines, herbal preparations and supplements you are taking currently to avoid any possible drug interactions.
