Leucovorin
Molecule Description
Leucovorin or Folinic Acid, as it is commonly known, is used to decrease the to
xicity of nerves (neurotoxic) and kidneys (nephrotoxic) post-chemotherapy. It can also be used to treat colorectal cancer.
Uses of Leucovorin
Severe blood cell disorders (like thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, anemia) caused by certain medicines (Folic Acid antagonists such as Methotrexate, Trimethoprim, Pyrimethamine).
Contraindications of Leucovorin
When should one not use Leucovorin
Allergy to anemia of the pernicious kind and any other form of Calcium Folinate.
Side effects of Leucovorin
Common side effects of this drug are:
- Rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face, tongue, throat)
- Severe dizziness, trouble breathing
