Cinitapride

Molecule Description

Cinitapride is a gastro prokinetic and antiulcer agent which is used to prevent and treat dyspepsia, gastric ulcer, esophagitis, and heartburn. It is also used to treat delayed gastric emptying and to reduce the acid secretion in the stomach.

Mode of Action of Cinitapride

How Does It Work?

It acts by increasing the gastrointestinal movement by enhancing the frequency and strength of stomach muscle contractions. It also increases the secretion of acetylcholine in the stomach, thereby increasing the gastric motility, gastric emptying, and improves gastro-duodenal coordination.

Dosage of Cinitapride

Overdose

Take the medication exactly as prescribed. If you take more dose than prescribed, it will cause severe drowsiness, diarrhea, headaches, nausea and vomiting, joint pain, and muscle pain. Contact the nearest emergency department immediately if you encounter symptoms of overdose.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose, take it as early as you remember. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosage schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for a missed one.
