Molecule Description

Amlodipine+Atenolol is a combination medicine. It is used to treat high blood pressure and heart-related disorder such as chest pain (angina pectoris). It works by lowering the blood pressure, heart rate and contractility of heart muscles. Amlodipine+Atenolol is available in the form of tablets and capsules. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding and about all the medicines and supplements you take and all the conditions or diseases you suffer from, before starting amlodipine+atenolol.

  • If you are allergic to amlodipine, atenolol or similar medicines
  • If you have any heart disorders like heart failure problem, irregular heartbeat and heart blockage.

  • If you are suffering from metabolic acidosis, a condition when the body produces excess acid.
  • If you have a hormone-secreting tumour in the adrenal gland (Pheochromocytoma).

  • Amlodipine works by relaxing and widening the blood vessels, thereby facilitating blood circulation and lowering blood pressure.

  • Some medicines can affect the way amlodipine+atenolol works or this medicine itself can reduce the effectiveness of other medicines taken at the same time.
  • Tell your doctor about all the medicines, supplements, or herbals you are currently taking or might take to avoid any possible interaction. Especially if you are taking medicines to treat your heart problems, psychiatric disorders, cholesterol problems or are taking pain killers, medicines to modify the immune response.
  • You may experience an excess drop in blood pressure if you are taking any other blood pressure-lowering medicine, antifungal medicines and antibiotics with this medicine.
  • Medicine that is used as a muscle relaxant called Dantrolene, if taken along, can lead to serious heart-related problems.
  • Medicines that are used for irregular heartbeats like Amiodarone and Disopyramide if taken along with this medicine can lead to a drop in blood pressure and slow heartbeat. Simultaneous use should be avoided.

Dosage

Symptoms of overdose may include low blood pressure, slow heart rate. Seek urgent medical help if you suspect an overdose.

Missed a Dose

If you have missed any dose of amlodipine+atenolol then take it as soon as you remember. If it is already time for the next dose then skip the missed dose and follow the regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to compensate for the missed one.
