Mode of Action
How Does It Work?
For treatment of Influenza-It mainly acts on Influenza A virus (i.e., H1N1, H2N2, and H3N2). It works by blocking the protein called M2 present in virus, thereby blocking the release of the virus into human cells. It also acts by preventing the multiplication virus in the body. It has little or no effect in treating Influenza B infection.
For treatment of Antiparkinson activity:
Its mechanism of action is complex and not completely understood.
Overactivity of the NMDA receptor can lead to an increase in the neurotransmission and generation of parkinsonian symptoms. By blocking the NMDA receptors, it decreases the overactivity of the NMDA receptor and prevents the parkinsonian symptoms.
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Thioridazine: Taking this medicine along with Amantadine can cause tremor to worsen in patients suffering from Parkinson’s disease.
- Anticholinergic medicines such as Scopolamine, Hydrochlorothiazide, Quinidine, Quinine, stimulant medicines, e.g., Caffeine, Methylphenidate, Pseudoephedrine, or Triamterene, should be avoided while on Amantadine because these medicines increase the risk of the side effects of Amantadine.
