Medical Description

Veocal suspension is a nutritional supplement used to support calcium intake and bone health in people with calcium deficiency, including older adults. It contains a combination of calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, zinc gluconate and vitamin D3. Calcium carbonate supplies calcium, while vitamin D3 helps the body absorb and use calcium; magnesium hydroxide and zinc gluconate are also part of the formulation, but their separate role is not defined. Shake Veocal suspension well and use the measuring device supplied with the pack to take it by mouth as directed by a doctor.

How does this medicine work?

Calcium carbonate supplies calcium needed for bones, teeth, muscles and nerves. Vitamin D3 helps the body absorb and use calcium, supporting calcium balance and bone mineralisation. Magnesium hydroxide and zinc gluconate are included in the combination, but their separate contribution in Veocal suspension is not defined. Because excess calcium or vitamin D can disturb calcium balance, use the suspension only as advised.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Veocal suspension works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, calcium can reduce absorption of thyroid medicines, iron and some antibiotics, while thiazide water tablets, medicines affecting kidney function and other calcium or vitamin D products can increase calcium levels. Tell your doctor if you use magnesium-containing products because they may also affect absorption of some medicines.
