Medical Description

Uliwell Capsule is used in the treatment of uterine fibroids (a non-cancerous growth in the uterus). It is also used as a pre-operative treatment in women of reproductive age. Uliwell Capsule can help manage symptoms like vaginal bleeding, heavy periods, and lower back pain. The dose, frequency and duration of treatment depend on the clinical condition. It is important to complete the prescribed course of Uliwell Capsule. It is crucial to remember that this medication reduces the effectiveness of birth control, so use good contraception to avoid pregnancy. Amenorrhea (the lack of a menstrual cycle) and headache are the most common side effects of this medication. This prescription may temporarily halt your period, but it will resume once you stop using it. If you experience excessive bleeding after 10 days of taking Uliwell Capsule, visit your doctor. If you have ever had liver problems or severe asthma, tell your doctor before taking this medicine. At the time of consultation, inform the doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Your doctor may prescribe blood tests to determine how well your liver is functioning.

Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

Uliwell Capsule is a selective progesterone receptor modulator. Its active component is ulipristal acetate. It operates by altering progesterone's activity (natural female hormone). It is used in the treatment of fibroids either before surgery or on an intermittent basis (at regular intervals). It helps reduce the size of fibroids, the cessation or management of bleeding, and the rise of red blood cell count.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • To avoid side effects associated with medicine interaction, it is important to inform the doctor about all medicines and health supplements you are currently taking.
  • Uliwell Capsule is known to interact with the following medicines:
  • By competing for the progesterone receptor, hormonal contraceptives and progestogens are expected to reduce the efficacy of ulipristal acetate. As a result, using progestogen-containing medicines at the same time is not suggested.
  • Long-term use of ritonavir, rifampicin, rifabutin, carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, phenytoin, fosphenytoin, phenobarbital, primidone, efavirenz, nevirapine, markedly reduced Cmax and AUC of ulipristal acetate and its active metabolite by 90% or more and decreased ulipristal acetate half-life by 2.2-fold corresponding to an approximately 10-fold decrease of ulipristal acetate exposure.

Interactions with food items

  • No information is available on the interaction of Uliwell Capsule with food. Please seek medical advice.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

No. Uliwell Capsule is not intended to be used as a daily contraceptive. It's only meant to be used as emergency contraception in exceptional circumstances. It's important to remember that Uliwell Capsule's safety and efficacy haven't been proven for use over multiple menstrual cycles. As a result, it is not recommended to use it frequently.

Uliwell Capsule works by inhibiting progesterone receptors, lowering progesterone levels and thereby reducing the size of fibroids. Fibroids are benign tumours that grow around the uterus. Uliwell Capsule prevents ovulation, resulting in the cessation of periods when taken at a specific dose. As a result, it may be beneficial to women who suffer from severe bleeding as a result of fibroids.

Birth control pills may be less effective if you take the Uliwell Capsule. Consequently, you should use condoms in addition to birth control pills until your next period (menses).
