Uses
- Triptolol 10 mg/40 mg tablets are used for the treatment of migraine.
Contraindications
- Do not take Triptolol 10 mg/40 mg tablets or take with caution:
- If you have liver disease; Since this medicine is metabolised in the liver, a decrease in liver function can increase the concentration of the medicine in the body.
- If you have a history of allergy.
- If you have been diagnosed with any heart disease; use caution while taking this medicine as it can increase heart rate and the workload on the heart.
- If you take monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) like Phenelzine, Tranylcypromine, Selegiline, etc. Triptolol 10 mg/40 mg tablets are contraindicated because the combination of these two types of medications can cause convulsions, high fever and be fatal.
- If you have been diagnosed with acute angle-closure glaucoma; Triptolol 10mg/40mg tablets may precipitate an attack.
- If you have respiratory diseases like asthma.
- If you have diabetes; this medicine can cause fluctuation in blood sugar levels and should be prescribed with caution.
- You are an older adult with complaints of urinary difficulties; it is contraindicated as it can cause urine retention leading to urinary tract infections.

Interactions with other medicines
- Anticholinergic medicines (benztropine and belladonna alkaloids) with Triptolol 10 mg/40 mg tablets increase urinary complaints and can increase the chances of dryness of the mouth.
- Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) (isocarboxazid, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline, and tranylcypromine) should not be combined with this medicine. Together, they can cause severe side effects like diarrhoea, palpitations, and even death.
- Antacids (cimetidine) can increase the serum concentration of Triptolol 10 mg/40 mg tablets.
- Antidepressants (paroxetine, fluoxetine, and fluvoxamine) can increase the side effects of Triptolol 10 mg/40 mg tablets like drowsiness and tremors.
- Antiarrhythmic medicines (quinidine, propafenone, and flecainide) can increase the chances of palpitations.
- Antihistamines (cetirizine and diphenhydramine) can cause impairment in judgement and dizziness.
- Analgesics (codeine) can increase sleepiness and cause changes in consciousness.
- Anti-anxiety medicines (alprazolam, diazepam, and zolpidem) can increase the chances of drowsiness.
- Anticoagulants (aspirin and clopidogrel) increase the chances of bleeding.
