Tazact 4.5gm Powder For Injection

• Tazact 4.5gm injection is used in adults and adolescents for the treatment of complicated bacterial infections of the stomach, abdomen, skin, soft tissue, diabetic foot infections due to diabetes, and pneumonia.
• It is also used in children aged 2-12 years for the treatment of infections of the abdomen such as appendicitis, peritonitis (infection of the fluid and lining of the abdominal organs), and gallbladder (biliary) infections.

• If you are allergic to piperacillin, tazobactam, or any of the ingredients of Tazact 4.5gm injection.
• If you have a history of allergic reactions to any other antibiotics like cephalosporins, monobactam, or carbapenem.

• Diarrhoea
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Headache
• Rashes

Other General Warnings

• You have a history of allergic reactions to penicillins, cephalosporins, or carbapenems.
• You develop skin disorders like painful rashes along with flu after using this medicine.
• You have diarrhea and pus in your stool after taking this medicine.
• You experience bleeding disorders or are taking blood-thinning medicines like warfarin.
• You experience fits or convulsions.
• You have problems with kidney function.
• You have weakness, fatigue, muscle cramps, or low levels of potassium.

• Tazact 4.5gm injection will be given in a hospital by your doctor or nurse as an injection.
• Do not self-inject this medicine. Follow any aftercare instructions suggested by the doctor or nurse.

• Store Tazact 4.5gm injection at or below 25°C protected from light.
• Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.

How Does It Work?

• Tazact 4.5gm injection contains a combination of piperacillin and tazobactam as active substances.
• Piperacillin binds to certain proteins in the bacteria called penicillin-binding proteins that are required for the proper development of the bacterial cell wall. This causes the formation of defective cell walls in the bacteria which leads to bacterial death. However, bacteria make an enzyme called beta-lactamase which can destroy piperacillin.
• Tazobactam inactivates this enzyme and helps piperacillin to function optimally.

Interactions with other medicines

• Some medicines can affect the way Tazact 4.5gm injection works, or this medicine itself may reduce the effectiveness of other medicines taken at the same time.
• Tell your doctor about all medicines, supplements, or herbals you are currently taking or might take to avoid any possible interaction.
• Particular care should be taken if you are taking medicines to relax the muscles during surgery like vecuronium, to stop blood clotting like warfarin, to treat certain types of cancers like methotrexate, to treat gout like probenecid.
• Care should be taken if you have kidney problems and you are taking antibiotics like tobramycin, gentamicin, and vancomycin.
