Medical Description
Strocit 500 Tablet is used to support the recovery of brain function after a stroke or head injury, and in memory and thinking difficulties associated with reduced blood flow to the brain. It contains citicoline and is given alongside the main treatment rather than instead of it.
Citicoline supplies cytidine and choline, which brain cells use to manufacture phosphatidylcholine, a major component of the membranes surrounding nerve cells. When those membranes break down after injury, citicoline provides material for their repair.
It also contributes choline to the production of acetylcholine, a chemical messenger involved in memory and attention, and appears to limit the release of free fatty acids, which worsen damage after a reduction in blood supply.
Take it with or without food at the same times each day. It is generally well tolerated, with occasional mild nausea, headache, dizziness or difficulty sleeping.
The evidence for citicoline is mixed: a large international trial in acute stroke did not confirm a clear benefit, and it should be regarded as supportive. Rehabilitation therapy and control of blood pressure, diabetes, and cholesterol remain the foundation of recovery.

Quick Tips
- Strocit 500 Tablet supplies building blocks for repairing nerve cell membranes after brain injury.
- It supports recovery but does not reverse established stroke damage.
- Physiotherapy, speech and occupational therapy do far more for recovery than any tablet.
- Controlling blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol and atrial fibrillation is what prevents another stroke.
- The evidence for citicoline is mixed, so ask your doctor to review whether it is genuinely helping.
- Take it at the same times each day, with or without food.
- It is not a memory booster for healthy people and should not be taken without a prescription.
- Report persistent nausea, headache, dizziness or sleeplessness.

Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Some medicines can affect the way Strocit Tablet works, or Strocit itself can reduce the effectiveness of other medicines taken at the same time.
- Tell your doctor about all the medicines, supplements, or herbals you are currently taking or might take to avoid any possible interaction.
- Especially if you are taking medicines to treat brain-related disorders such as levodopa and meclofenoxate.
Interactions with food items
- Strocit 500 Tablet may be taken with or without food, though taking it after a meal reduces the mild nausea some people experience.
- Limit alcohol, which is directly toxic to nerve cells, worsens memory and thinking, and raises blood pressure.
- Diet after a stroke matters more than any supplement. Reduce salt to help blood pressure, cut fried food and saturated fat for cholesterol, and build meals around vegetables, fruit, whole grains, pulses and fish.
- Choline occurs naturally in eggs, fish, chicken, milk, soybeans and cruciferous vegetables, so a good diet supports the same pathway this medicine acts on.
- If you have swallowing difficulty after a stroke, ask your doctor or speech therapist before taking any tablet, as the form or route may need changing.
- Keep well hydrated and maintain regular meals, particularly if appetite has been affected by the illness.
