Sizodon 5 MG Description
Sizodon is an antipsychotic prescription medication used in the treatment of schizophrenia. People with this mental disorder have an altered perception of reality that affects how they feel, think, a
nd behave. They can present with hallucinations, delusions, altered perceptions, mood changes, disorderly thinking: all of which can be debilitating. The active component in Sizodon tablets is Risperidone (4mg). The mode of action of Sizodon tablets is by managing the chemical messengers, serotonin and dopamine, in the brain. Known as neurotransmitters, these chemical messengers and brain pathways are thought to produce the symptoms of schizophrenia. Antipsychotic medications primarily decrease this process, thereby producing relief from symptoms. Directions for use of Sizodon tablets should be strictly followed. It is recommended to complete the entire course of treatment as abruptly stopping this medicine can cause worsening of symptoms. Side effects of Sizodon tablets include sedation, dizziness, weight gain, increased appetite, nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, constipation, cold, cough, increased sugar levels in people with diabetes, abnormal heart rhythms, anxiety, restlessness, and increased prolactin levels.

Uses of Sizodon 5 MG
- Sizodon tablets are used for the treatment of:
- Schizophrenia
- Acute manic episodes in Bipolar I disorder
- As monotherapy in children < 10 years
- In adjunct to Lithium or Valproate in adults
- Autism-associated irritability
Contraindications of Sizodon 5 MG
- Do not take Sizodon tablets or use caution:
- If you are hypersensitive to risperidone or any other components in this medication
- If you are an older adult with psychosis associated with degenerative conditions of the brain; there is a black-box warning for increased risk of stroke and death in such persons
- If you have any underlying cardiovascular disease; use caution as this medicine can increase the risk of an adverse event
- If you have a low blood cell count; this medication can lower it further

- You have a history of seizures or take any medications known to decrease seizure potential.
- You experience any sudden changes in mood or worsening of symptoms of schizophrenia.
- You take other medication too. Please inform your doctor so they can check for any debilitating medicine interactions.
- You experience Parkinsonism symptoms such as tremors, stooped gait, slowing of movements, rigidity of muscles etc.
- You have stiff, jerky, involuntary movements (tardive dyskinesia).

How Does It Work?
Directions for Use of Sizodon 5 MG
- Sizodon tablets should be taken as prescribed by the treating physician.
- It is recommended to take Sizodon tablets regularly, i.e., at the same time every day, for optimal pharmacological effects of this medication.
- Swallow the tablet as a whole. Do not crush, chew or break it.
- Sizodon tablets can be taken with or without food.
- It is recommended to finish the entire course of this medication as prescribed by your treating doctor. Abrupt stoppage of Sizodon tablets can cause withdrawal side effects. Consult your doctor before stopping this medication....
Interactions of Sizodon 5 MG
Interactions with other medicines
- Sizodon tablets can interact with many medicines and cause adverse side effects. It is advised to inform the doctor of all medication being taken to be checked for possible interaction issues. The following medicines are known to interact with Sizodon tablets....
- Carbamazepine and other enzyme inducers decrease plasma concentrations of Risperidone.
- Fluoxetine, paroxetine, and other enzyme inhibitors increase plasma concentrations of Risperidone.
- Sizodon tablets should not be taken with certain medications like quinidine, procainamide, sotalol, pimozide, pentamidine, and ibutilide as they can cause irregularities in heart rhythms.
- Sizodon tablets should not be used with alcohol or other CNS depressants.
- Clozapine decreases the excretion of Risperidone.
- Cimetidine and ranitidine increase the amount of active medicine concentration of Risperidone.
- This medication should not be taken with Levodopa which is used to treat Parkinsonism, as it decreases the efficacy of levodopa.
- Concomitant use with blood-pressure-lowering medications can cause a severe reduction in blood pressure.
