Medical Description
Septran tablet is an antibiotic medicine. It is used to treat various infections caused by certain bacteria. It is widely used to treat bacterial infections in the lungs, urinary bladder, ear or skin. It contains a combination of sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim as active ingredients. This medicine acts by preventing the growth of bacteria to treat the infection. Take this medicine as advised by your doctor for the prescribed duration. You can take the Septran tablet with or after food. Always complete the entire course of treatment with antibiotics, as incomplete treatment may result in treatment failure and increased risk of re-infection. Contraindications of SEPTRAN 400/80MG STRIP OF 10 TABLETS
- If you are allergic to sulfamethoxazole, trimethoprim or any of the ingredients present in Septran tablet.
- If you have severe liver or kidney disorders.
- If you ever had a decrease platelet count due to this medicine.
- If you have any blood-related disorder such as polyphia.
- This medicine should not be used in a child below 6 weeks of life.

Interactions with other medicines
- Some medicines can affect the way Septran tablet works, or Septran itself can reduce the effectiveness of other medicines taken at the same time.
- Tell your doctor about all the medicines, supplements, or herbals you are currently taking or might take to avoid any possible interaction.
- In particular, if you are taking medicines to treat high blood pressure, heart failure, high/abnormal cholesterol levels, blood thinners, anti-infectives, anti-diabetics, anti-asthmatics, pain killers, immunomodulatory medicines or medicines for the brain-related disorder....
- When blood thinner medicine like warfarin is taken along with septran, it increases the risk of bleeding.
- Concomitant use of Septran with water tablets (diuretics) like spironolactone may decrease blood platelet count.
- The effect of medicines used to treat heart problems like digoxin or procainamide may be increased when used concomitantly with Septran.
- Concomitant use of Septran with medicines used to treat malaria and diarrhoea (pyrimethamine) can increase the risk of anaemia.
