Medical Description
Rifagut 550 tablet is an antibiotic medicine containing rifaximin. It is used to treat infectious diarrhoea and irritable bowel syndrome associated with diarrhoea, which are mainly caused by infection-causing bacteria. It is also used to treat hepatic encephalopathy, a liver disease in which the liver does not remove toxins from the blood and thus hampers overall bodily functioning.
Rifaximin also present in Rifcure tablet, Rcifax tablet, Rifaxigress tablet, Dirifa tablet and Sibofix tablet.
You should take the Rifagut 550 at the prescribed dose and duration. You should complete the entire course of treatment with Rifagut 550 and not stop it mid-way on your own without the knowledge of your doctor. It may result in treatment failure and increase the risk of re-infection.
Uses
- Rifagut 550 tablet is used for the treatment of hepatic encephalopathy (a condition in which brain function gets impaired due to the damaged liver).
- It is also used to treat infectious diarrhoea and irritable bowel syndrome associated with diarrhoea.
Contraindications
- If you are allergic to rifaximin or any other ingredients of this medicine.
- If you have symptoms of blockage in the bowel or constipation.

- You experience severe diarrhoea with blood or fever after Rifagut 550, stop the treatment immediately and consult the doctor.

Directions for Use
- Rifagut 550 tablet is to be taken with a glass of water. This tablet is not supposed to be broken, crushed or chewed.
- Do not change your dose unless your doctor tells you. Also, never stop this medicine on your own.
- Complete the entire course of the medicine, do not stop this medicine halfway, even if you feel better.
Storage and disposal
- Keep the medicine away from direct light, moisture and heat in a closed container.
- Keep the medicine away from children and pets.
- Discard outdated medicines and ask your doctor about how to dispose of the medicines.
