Medical Description
Relent syrup is a cough and cold preparation. It is used to treat a cough with mucus. It also provides relief from allergic symptoms, such as itching, sneezing, a runny or stuffy nose, cough, congestion, and watery eyes. It contains ambroxol and cetirizine as its active ingredients.
Relent syrup acts by preventing the release of a substance called histamine, which is responsible for allergic conditions. It also works by loosening the mucus, thus easing breathing. Relent syrup may cause dizziness; therefore, exercise caution when driving or operating heavy machinery. Also, avoid smoking and exposure to dust and pollution.
Take this medicine as suggested by the doctor and in the dose and duration prescribed. Before using this medicine, inform the doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding, and provide your detailed medical history.
According to the advisory issued by the Union Health Ministry, cough and cold medications should not be prescribed or dispensed to children under two years of age. These medications are generally not recommended for children under five years old. For children above that age, any use should be based on careful clinical evaluation and close supervision.

Mode of Action
How Does It Work?
- Relent syrup contains a combination of ambroxol and cetirizine as its active ingredients.
- Cetirizine inhibits the allergic symptoms produced by histamines (a certain chemical substance that is released by the body).
- Ambroxol acts as a mucolytic agent. It works by loosening/thinning up the mucous in the respiratory passages and makes the mucous less sticky. Thus, it helps in removing the cough from the body.
- The combined action of these ingredients helps in relieving cough and congestion.
