Medical Description

Protopan I tablet is a combination medicine used for acid reflux, heartburn, functional indigestion such as bloating and early fullness, delayed stomach emptying with reflux, and certain acid-related ulcers. It contains pantoprazole, which lowers stomach acid, and itopride, which helps the stomach and upper intestine move food forward. Together, these ingredients reduce acid irritation and help stomach contents pass onward, which can ease sour regurgitation and upper abdominal discomfort. Protopan I tablet is taken by mouth on an empty stomach as prescribed and swallowed whole with water.

  • Acid reflux and heartburn: Repeated backflow of stomach contents can cause burning in the chest or throat; this combination eases symptoms by reducing irritation and supporting stomach emptying.

  • Delayed stomach emptying with reflux: The combination helps move stomach contents forward while reducing acid exposure and sour regurgitation.
  • Acid-related ulcers: Lowering stomach acid can reduce irritation and support healing of certain ulcers in the stomach or intestine.

How does this medicine work?

The pantoprazole in Protopan I tablet blocks the stomach's acid-producing pumps, so less acid is released. The itopride helps the stomach and upper intestine move food and digestive contents forward. Together, these effects reduce acid irritation and help stomach contents pass onward.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Protopan I tablet works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, mention blood thinners, medicines for human immunodeficiency virus infection, antifungal medicines, thyroid medicines, medicines that affect heart rhythm, iron supplements, methotrexate and other acid-reducing medicines. Reduced stomach acid can lower the absorption of some antifungal, antiviral, thyroid or iron medicines, while methotrexate exposure can increase. Blood thinners or heart-rhythm medicines may need monitoring, and other acid-reducing medicines can duplicate its effect.
