Interactions with other medicines

  • Antiviral medicines, antifungal agents and anti-infectious agents may have lower plasma concentrations as a result of accelerated metabolism caused by primidone
  • Co-administration of pyrimidone with St John's Wort reduces its efficacy and decreases the plasma concentration of primidone
  • For drugs the following drugs, there is a risk of lower plasma concentrations due to accelerated metabolism caused by primidone and dose adjustments might be needed:
  • Drugs affecting the nervous system: oxycodone
  • Anticoagulant drugs: dabigatran, ticagrelor
  • Anti-neoplastic agents: tyrosine kinase inhibitors
  • Cardiovascular agents: bosentan, nimodipine
  • Hormonal agents: abiraterone, ulipristal
  • Co-administration of drugs affecting the nervous system with primidone may also have an increased risk of additive CNS depression
