Medical Description

Premarin 0.3 tablet contains estrogen as its active ingredient. It is a female hormone usually given due to deficiency especially during the menopause stage of women. This deficiency may lead to symptoms like vaginal dryness or hot flushes. This tablet works by imitating the actions of the natural hormone and is used to manage the symptoms of menstrual & gynaecological disorder due to imbalance in the hormonal levels. It should be taken as directed by the doctor and in doses and duration as prescribed. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or are breastfeeding and about all the medicines and supplements you take and all the conditions or diseases you suffer from, before starting this medicine. Do not self medicate with the Premarin 0.3 tablet and it is recommended to follow all the instructions given by your doctor before taking this tablet.

Uses

  • Premarin 0.3 tablet is used in the treatment of menstrual & gynaecological disorders due to hormonal imbalance.
  • It is also used in preventing bone problems like osteoporosis during the post-menopausal stage.

Contraindications

  • If you are allergic to conjugated estrogen or other excipients present in the Premarin 0.3 tablet.
  • If you have any kind of pre-existing health condition such as breast cancer, blood clotting disorder, heart or liver-related problem.
  • If you have a known history of womb cancer and womb related problems.
  • If you have a known history of vaginal bleeding (unexplained).
  • If you ever had a history of a blood clot in any of the organs or legs.
  • If you are pregnant or are breastfeeding women.

  • You have any kind of pre-existing health condition such as a history of blood clots, diabetes, gall stones, fits, hypertension, heart-related problem, liver or kidney disorder, weak immunity, headache or migraine, respiratory problem, hearing problem, etc.
  • You have higher levels of fat in your blood. If you are unsure, discuss this with your doctor.
  • You have a history or currently having of low levels of calcium in the blood.

Directions for Use

  • Premarin 0.3 tablet should be taken as directed by the doctor.
  • Swallow it as a whole with a glass of water.
  • Do not break, crush or chew the medicine. It is recommended to take it regularly and at a fixed time.
  • Do not consume it more than that prescribed by your doctor.

Missed a Dose

If you have missed taking a dose of the Premarin 0.3 tablet, then take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose. Do not take a double dose to compensate for the missed one.

Estrogen in this medicine acts similarly to the naturally present estrogen that works in normal conditions and helps in regulating the normal functions of the uterus. Thus, helps in preventing the symptoms during the menopause stage like hot flushes, mood swings, etc.

  • Certain medicines may affect the way the Premarin 0.3 tablet works or this medicine itself can affect the action of other medicines taken at the same time. Inform your doctor about any other medicines, herbal preparations and supplements you are currently taking or might take to avoid any interaction with this combination of medicine.
  • Especially, if you are taking medicines for treating fits, bacterial and fungal infections, Cushing syndrome, stomach ulcers, Anti-tuberculosis medicines, anti-HIV medicines, St. John’s wort (herbal medicine for brain disorder), etc.
  • Concomitant use of steroid medicines like dexamethasone with the Premarin 0.3 tablet should be avoided.

Interactions with food items

It is recommended to avoid grapefruit juice during the treatment with this medicine.

If you notice any of these, immediately inform your doctor.This medicine can also increase the risk of heart disease, immediately notify your doctor if you experience pain in the chest or pain in the legs and inability to walk.

You may experience variations in weight after taking this medicine. However, it depends on the physiological condition of an individual and varies among different individuals.

You should take this medicine as prescribed by your doctor and for the prescribed duration. Do not increase or decrease the dose of this medicine on your own.
