Medical Description

Panthobic gel is used to support healing and comfort after an eye injury related to surgery, infection or trauma. It contains a combination of D-panthenol and gamma linolenic acid. D-panthenol changes into pantothenic acid and helps the eye surface retain moisture while supporting tissue repair; gamma linolenic acid is also part of the formulation, but its specific contribution in this gel is not clearly established. Panthobic gel is placed inside the lower eyelid as prescribed by an eye specialist, and it is not meant for routine eye strain or unassessed eye problems.

Uses

  • Eye injury after surgery: Supports healing of the eye surface and helps reduce discomfort during recovery.
  • Eye injury from trauma or infection: Helps moisturise and soothe an irritated eye surface while the injury heals.
  • Burning and irritation: Lubricates the eye and may reduce dryness, burning and swelling associated with an injured surface.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, do not use it. Do not use Panthobic gel for unexplained severe eye pain, sudden vision loss or a suspected serious eye problem unless an eye specialist advises it. Do not share the tube.

Side effects

  • Temporary blurred vision: The gel may briefly coat the eye after application. Do not drive or use machinery until your vision becomes clear.
  • Eye irritation: Mild stinging, redness or watering may occur after application. Remove contact lenses and contact your eye specialist if the irritation is severe or continues.
  • Allergic reaction: Swelling, intense redness, rash or breathing difficulty may indicate allergy. Get emergency medical help if the face, lips or throat swell or breathing becomes difficult.

How does this medicine work?

D-panthenol changes into pantothenic acid in the tissues, helping the eye surface retain moisture and supporting repair. Gamma linolenic acid is included in the formulation, but its specific action in this gel is not clearly established. The gel forms a moist layer over the eye surface, which can reduce friction and discomfort.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Panthobic works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, tell your eye specialist about other eye preparations, because they may need to be applied separately to avoid washing the gel away.
