Medical Description

Oltha 5 mg belongs to the group of medications known as antipsychotics. It contains Olanzapine as its active ingredient and it is primarily used in the treatment of psychiatric conditions like bipolar disorder, depression and schizophrenia. Olanzapine acts by regulating levels of chemical messengers like dopamine and serotonin in the brain. This activity helps to relieve symptoms of schizophrenia and manic depression. It also helps elevate mood and improves social behaviour. Oltha 5 mg should be consumed immediately upon removal from the pack. Oltha 5 mg is not recommended for patients below 13 years of age and old patients suffering from Dementia. Treatment with Oltha 5 mg in teenagers needs to be followed up with medical advice, psychological counselling and periodic checkups. The common side effects of Oltha 5 mg Tablet 10 may include headache, dry mouth and dizziness.

Directions for Use

  • Oltha 5 mg is a tablet which can be taken before or after meals depending on the instructions given by your physician.
  • The tablet should be taken immediately and placed on/below the tongue after removing it from the pack.
  • Flip the metal foil to open the tablets. Do not try to remove the tablet by breaking through the pack.
  • You may/may not follow it up with water.

Storage and disposal

Oltha 5 mg tablets are stored at room temperature in a dry place. It is to be kept away from moisture. Keep away from children and pets at home. Any unused Oltha 5 mg tablets should be disposed of appropriately along with medical waste. Do not drain it away in sinks or along with other household waste.

Overdose of Oltha 5 mg tablets can cause toxicity, showing symptoms such as agitation, increased heart rate, slurred speech, drowsiness, sudden movements that one cannot control, coma (loss of consciousness for a period of time). Any known case of overdose of Oltha 5 mg should be immediately informed to the doctor or the emergency healthcare hospital/clinic.

Missed a Dose

Any missed dose of Oltha 5 mg can be taken as soon as you realise that you have missed the dose. If the next dose is due in a few hours then there is no need to take the missed dose and you can directly take the following dose. Do not double the dose of Oltha 5 mg to make up for any missed doses .

It may make them hallucinate (to imagine and retell stories which never happened).   • Opioid analgesics like tramadol/codeine
  • Antidepressants
  • Dopamine agonists (bromocriptine, cabergoline)
  • Ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin
  • Seizure medications
  • Ulcer medications
  • Sleeping pills
  • Tranquillisers
  • Oltha may cause an interaction if consumed with any of the medicines mentioned above. The interaction between these two medicines can cause an adverse effect on the body. Additionally, in some cases, these medicines interact with each other decreasing the effectiveness of either.
