Mode of Action
How Does It Work?
- Olmat Ct Tablet works by the combined action of both its components -olmesartan and chlorthalidone.
- Olmesartan is an angiotensin-II receptor antagonist. Angiotensin II is a chemical produced in the body which causes blood vessels to narrow, thus increasing blood pressure. Olmesartan works by blocking the effect of angiotensin II, which lowers blood pressure by relaxing the blood vessels.
- Chlorthalidone prevents the reabsorption of sodium and chloride by blocking the sodium/chloride symporter. This reduces the plasma and extracellular fluid volume which thereby lowers the blood pressure.
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Some medicines can affect the way Olmat Ct Tablet works or this medicine itself can reduce the effectiveness of other medicines taken at the same time.
- Tell your doctor about all the medicines, supplements, or herbals you are currently taking or might take to avoid any possible interactions.
- Especially if you are taking medicines to treat heart problems, or are taking other medicines to treat high blood pressure, potassium supplements, painkillers, amiloride, spironolactone, lithium, or colesevelam (used to reduce cholesterol and fatty substances in the blood).
