Uses
- Nortin 25 mg tablets are used in the treatment of:
- Depression
- Night-time bedwetting (nocturnal enuresis)
- Neuropathic pain
Contraindications
- Do not take Nortin 25 mg tablets or take with caution:
- If you are hypersensitive or allergic to Nortriptyline or other tricyclic antidepressants and other inactive substances present in the medication
- If you have recently had a heart attack or are recovering from one
Side effects
- Side effects of Nortin 25 mg tablets include:
- Increased heart rate
- Weight gain
- Orthostatic hypotension (sudden drop in blood pressure on standing)
- Dry mouth
- Constipation
- Urination difficulties
- Blurred vision
- Agitation
- Weakness of arms, legs, or feet
- Breast enlargement
- Skin rash
- Decreased libido

- You have suicidal thoughts or experience a behaviour change. Any unusual symptoms or changes in behaviour should be reported to the doctor immediately.
- You have allergic reactions such as rashes, swelling, severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing after taking this medicine.
- You want to discontinue the medicine. Suddenly stopping Nortin 25 mg tablets may cause withdrawal symptoms, more so if the medicine has been used for a long time.
- You want to do activities that require high alertness. Nortin 25 mg tablets can cause moderate levels of sedation and can hamper the ability to do tasks requiring high alertness and concentration.
- You have surgery scheduled. This medication is not recommended for people about to have surgery in the near future. Talk to your doctor about discontinuing the medication in the proper manner.
- You have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Symptoms of bipolar disorder can worsen when on treatment with Nortin 25 mg tablets. Any history of bipolar disorder and depression should be reported to the doctor.
Directions for Use
- Nortin 25 mg tablets must be taken as directed by the doctor.
- Take the pill at the same time every day to ensure that a constant level of medication is maintained in the blood.
- Swallow the pill whole with a glass of water.
- Do not break, crush or chew the tablet; this can reduce its efficacy.
- Nortin 25 mg tablets can be taken with or without food.
- Do not take more medicine than what your doctor has recommended. Consult your doctor if you feel that your prescribed dosage isn’t working for you.
- Do not stop taking medicine without consulting your doctor.

- Nortin 25 mg tablets can interact with many medicines and cause adverse side effects. It is advised to inform the doctor of all medication being taken so they can be checked for possible interaction issues. The following medicines are known to interact with Nortin 25 mg tablets.
- Glimepiride (medication used to treat diabetes type-2) - blood sugar levels are altered.
- Linezolid (medication used to treat infections such as pneumonia or skin infections) - increase the risk of a rare but serious condition called the serotonin syndrome, which may include symptoms such as confusion, hallucination, seizure, extreme changes in blood pressure
- Ondansetron (medication used to prevent nausea and vomiting) - increase the risk serotonin syndrome
- Metoprolol (medication to treat chest pain and high blood pressure) - additive effects in lowering your blood pressure
