Medical Description
Nipress Dry powder for injection is used in hospital to rapidly lower dangerously high blood pressure, reduce the heart's workload during acute heart failure and create controlled low blood pressure during selected surgery. It contains sodium nitroprusside, which releases nitric oxide after it is prepared for infusion. Nitric oxide relaxes blood vessel walls, widening them so pressure falls and the heart pumps against less resistance. Nipress Dry powder for injection is diluted and given into a vein by a doctor or nurse with continuous blood pressure and safety monitoring. Treatment is specialist supervised because toxic breakdown products can occur.
