Description
New gtn 6.4 mg is a prescription medication primarily used to prevent and treat the symptoms of angina pectoris, like chest pain. New gtn 6.4 mg contains trinitro glycerine as an active ingredient.
Angina pectoris is a condition of the heart in which the blood supply to the heart's muscle is compromised, primarily because of the narrowing of blood vessels that cater to the heart muscle. As a result, the supply of oxygen, which happens through the blood in the coronary arteries, is compromised. It leads to pain in the left side of the chest which often gets radiated to the left arm, jaws etc. It doesn't treat the condition but just controls the symptoms. This medicine should not be stopped abruptly, as this can lead to withdrawal symptoms like anxiety, sweating, seizures, depression, hallucinations etc. This medicine needs to be stopped gradually, not abruptly.

- This medicine is used for
- Angina Pectoris prevention and Management of Angina Pectoris.
Contraindications of New Gtn 6.4 MG
- If you are allergic to any of the ingredients present in the new gtn 6.4 mg tablet.
- If you are on medications like sildenafil (used to treat erectile dysfunction).
- If you have a known history of increased intracranial pressure (pressure in the brain).
- If you are severely anaemic.

Mode of Action of New Gtn 6.4 MG
How Does It Work?
New gtn 6.4 mg contains tri nitroglycerine, which is a vasodilator i.e. it dilates the blood vessels supplying heart muscles.
Releasing certain relaxants of smooth muscles like nitric oxide brings about the dilatation of the arterioles and venules, allowing more oxygen to flow through.
It decreases blood vessels' resistance and decreases blood pressure, thereby reducing the stress on cardiac or heart muscle.
This mechanism is responsible for relief in most of the symptoms of angina pectoris....
Directions for Use of New Gtn 6.4 MG
- Use a new gtn 6.4 mg tablet as per the strict recommendation of your doctor.
- The dose and duration are decided by the doctor considering your condition.
- Check the label correctly.
- Read the instructions written on the label thoroughly.
- Do check the date of expiry. Do not buy or use the medication if the expiry date has already passed.
- Take a look at the packaging to see if it is intact.
- Do not use the medicine if the packaging has been damaged.
- Take the medication with a glass of water.
- Swallow it as a whole, don't chew or crush it.
- You can have it with or without food.
- Try to have it at a fixed time each day.
- Do not overdose.
- Do not take less than what has been recommended by the doctor.
Interactions of New Gtn 6.4 MG
Interactions with other medicines
- Medicines used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction like sildenafil, tadalafil, avanafil etc., should not be used concomitantly with new gtn tablets, as they can drop the blood pressure to significant levels which can produce devastating effects....
- Ergotamine (used to prevent and treat certain types of headaches) should not be used with new gtn, as this can worsen angina pectoris.
Storage and disposal of New Gtn 6.4 MG
Store a new gtn 6.4 mg tablet in a cool and dry place.
Keep it away from direct sunlight and moisture.
Ensure your children and pets have no access to the medication, so try to store it in a secure place.
Do not freeze.
Do not flush the leftover medication down into the toilet.

Dosage of New Gtn 6.4 MG
Overdose
Never try to increase the dose on your call.
Overdose can be life-threatening.
The symptoms of overdose are lightheadedness, fever, increased sweating, fainting, excessive headache, flushing, loss of consciousness, coma and even death.
Rush the person immediately to the nearby medical facility.
Call the emergency helpline.

Missed a Dose
Take the missed dose as early as possible. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed dose. Try to have the medicine at a fixed time each day to minimise the chances of forgetting.
