Medical Description

Nephrite tablet is a prescription combination used to support kidney function in people with diabetic kidney disease. It contains N-acetylcysteine, an antioxidant that helps reduce harmful oxidative stress, and taurine, an amino acid that may support kidney tissue and glucose regulation. Together, these ingredients may help reduce ongoing tissue injury and protein loss associated with diabetic kidney disease. Nephrite tablet supports, but does not replace, diabetes and blood pressure care prescribed by a clinician. It is swallowed by mouth after food exactly as prescribed and must be used under medical supervision.

How does this medicine work?

N-acetylcysteine helps the body produce antioxidant protection and may reduce harmful free radicals that injure kidney cells. Taurine is an amino acid with antioxidant and tissue-supporting properties and may assist glucose regulation. Together, they may reduce oxidative stress and inflammation linked with diabetic kidney disease. The medicine does not reverse established kidney damage on its own.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Nephrite tablet works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, cough suppressants used with N-acetylcysteine can reduce mucus clearance and cause mucus congestion. Tell your doctor if you use oral contraceptives, steroids, water tablets, antibiotics, heart medicines, diabetes medicines or blood pressure medicines, because the combination may need review.

Interactions with food items

No specific food interaction is known. Follow the meal plan provided for your kidney and diabetes care and tell your doctor about herbal products or supplements.
