Uses
- Narcolepsy: Uncontrollable sleepiness in the daytime
- Obstructive Sleep Apnea: A sleeping disorder where breathing stops for a short duration while sleeping.
- Shift work sleep disorder: Excessive sleepiness in people whose work schedules change often
Contraindications
- If you have many psychotic or mental conditions, such as manic disorder, bipolar disorder, aggressive behaviour etc.
- If you have an allergic reaction to any component of the Modalert tablet.
- If you have been diagnosed with depression.
- If you have any self-harming or suicidal thoughts.
- If you have any previous addiction behaviour to alcohol or drugs.
- If you have a serious heart condition like heart attack, angina, mitral valve prolapse, or left ventricular hypertrophy.
- If you have severe liver and renal disorder.
- If you are pregnant.
- If you have high blood pressure.

Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Oral contraceptives: Modalert tablets can decrease in effectiveness if using steroidal contraceptives.
- Cyclosporine, Midazolam and Triazolam: If you are using drugs like these with Modalert tablets, the Modalert dosage should be adjusted, as the drugs can stay in the body for a longer duration and cause unwanted effects.
- Blood thinners: If you are using blood thinners with a Modalert tablet, prothrombin time/ INR (a test) should be done frequently to monitor the effects.
- Anti-depressants: If you are using antidepressants or other related drugs, do not take Modalert with them.
Interactions with food items
- Interactions with alcohol.
- Do not take the Modalert tablet with alcohol. It can interfere with the effects of the drug and increase the severity of side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, mood disorders, etc.
