Medical Description

Macfast Injection is a medicine used for relieving pain and reducing fever. It contains paracetamol. It is used for the short-term treatment of pain especially after surgery and fever when medicines can not be taken orally by the patient. Paracetamol works by interfering with the release of certain natural chemical substances (prostaglandins) and relieves pain & fever. This injection is given under medical supervision in a healthcare setup. Tell your doctor about your complete medical history before taking this injection.

Uses

Macfast Injection is used for short-term treatment of pain especially post-operative pain and fever when oral administration is not possible.

Contraindications

  • If you are allergic to paracetamol or any ingredients of this medicine.
  • If you have serious liver disease or dysfunction.

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if
  • You have serious liver or kidney disease.
  • You are taking any other medicines or products that contain paracetamol, taking too much of the same can affect your liver.
  • You consume alcohol too often or you are malnourished or dehydrated.

Macfast Injection will be given in a hospital by your doctor or nurse as an injection. This is not meant for self-administration.

Dosage

Overdose

The injection will be administered by the doctor or nurse, so the chance of an overdose is very low. However, in case of an overdose you may experience nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite and stomach ache.

Missed a Dose

You will be administered by health professionals as to when the medicine should be given to you. So the chance of missing a dose is very low. But if you think they might have missed a dose, inform them.

How Does It Work?

There are some chemicals in the body called prostaglandins. These are substances that cause pain, swelling and fever. Macfast Injection contains paracetamol which blocks the production of these prostaglandins, thus temporarily controlling fever or pain. And as it acts on the part of the brain which controls the temperature of the body, it controls the fever.

Some medicines can affect the way Macfast Injection works or Macfast Injection itself can reduce the effectiveness of other medicines taken at the same time. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, supplements or herbals you are currently taking or might take to avoid any possible interaction. Especially if you are taking other pain killers, blood thinners and medicine for the treatment of gout.
