Medical Description

Lynx LB capsule is an antibiotic combination used for susceptible bacterial infections of the respiratory tract, skin, soft tissues, bones, joints, bloodstream, heart valves, or bowel. It contains lincomycin and lactobacillus sporogenes. Lincomycin blocks bacterial protein production, while lactobacillus sporogenes is included as a probiotic organism that may support the balance of helpful gut organisms during treatment. Lynx LB capsule is taken by mouth and is not useful for viral illnesses such as ordinary colds.

Uses

  • Respiratory infections: Lincomycin may treat susceptible bacterial infections affecting the upper or lower respiratory tract.
  • Skin and soft tissue infections: It may be used for susceptible bacterial infections affecting the skin or tissues beneath it.
  • Bone and joint infections: It may be prescribed for infections such as infected bone or septic joints when the bacteria are susceptible.
  • Bloodstream or heart-valve infections: Lincomycin may be used for serious susceptible infections in the blood or heart valves under close medical supervision.
  • Bacillary dysentery: It may be used for this bacterial bowel infection when a clinician confirms that lincomycin is appropriate.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, do not use it. Do not use Lynx LB capsule if you have had an allergy to lincomycin or clindamycin. It is not recommended for people with meningitis, an infection of the coverings around the brain and spinal cord. Tell your doctor if you have bowel inflammation, liver disease, or previous antibiotic-associated diarrhoea.

Side effects

  • Diarrhoea: Lincomycin can disturb helpful bowel organisms and cause loose stools. Contact your doctor promptly for severe, persistent, watery, or bloody diarrhoea.
  • Nausea: A sick feeling may occur after the capsule, especially when the stomach is sensitive. Ask your pharmacist whether taking it with or just after food is suitable.
  • Vomiting: Vomiting can occur during treatment and may prevent the medicine from being absorbed. Seek advice if vomiting continues or you cannot keep fluids down.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or could become pregnant. Use Lynx LB capsule only after the benefits and possible risks have been reviewed.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding. They can assess whether lincomycin and the probiotic component are suitable for you and the infant.

Driving

Driving

If Lynx LB capsule makes you dizzy or unwell, avoid driving until you feel alert again.

Directions for Use

Take this medicine as a whole with sufficient water. Do not crush or chew the capsule unless a doctor specifically instructs you. Taking it with or just after food may help nausea if your clinician permits it. Use it only as prescribed for the diagnosed infection.

Storage and disposal

Store Lynx LB capsules in the original pack in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep them out of children's reach and follow the storage temperature stated on the pack. Do not use them after the expiry date.

Quick Tips

  • Use Lynx LB capsule only for a bacterial infection identified by a clinician.
  • Do not share the capsules or save them for another illness.
  • Tell your doctor about any previous allergy to lincomycin, clindamycin, or an antibiotic.
  • Drink enough fluid unless a clinician has told you to restrict fluids.
  • Seek prompt advice for severe diarrhoea, skin peeling, yellowing of the eyes, or reduced urine output.

Dosage

Overdose

If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Lincomycin is an antibiotic that blocks the production of proteins bacteria need to grow and multiply. This helps control susceptible bacterial infections in the affected tissues. Lactobacillus sporogenes is included as a probiotic organism and may support the balance of helpful gut organisms during treatment, but it does not replace the antibiotic action or treat the infection by itself.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Lynx LB capsule works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, mention erythromycin and other medicines that act against bacteria, because the combination may reduce antibacterial activity, and neuromuscular blocking agents, because lincomycin may increase muscle weakness or breathing difficulty.
