Medical Description

Lopamax 2mg tablet is used to treat acute nonspecific diarrhoea in patients two years of age and older. The medication works on intestinal contraction and decreases stool passing frequency. Do not take more than the prescribed dose. If you observe any severe side effects, contact your doctor immediately or rush to the nearest hospital. Store the medication in a cool and dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Before starting the treatment, give a detailed account of your medical history and current medications.

Directions for Use

Overdose

Overdosing can result in toxic effects like coordination disorder, urinary retention, hypotension, and drowsiness. In case of overdosing, report to your doctor immediately.

Missed a Dose

If the dose is missed, the medication should be taken as soon as possible. Make sure you have the proper time interval between two doses. If the time interval is near the second dose, skip the previous dose and follow the regular schedule.

How Does It Work?

opamax tablet contains loperamide which acts on intestinal motility. The drug binds to the opiate receptors and reduces the propulsive peristalsis. It also increases the tone of the sphincter, which reduces the urgency.

Interactions with other medicines

  • This medication with itraconazole, quinidine, or gemfibrozil can increase the toxicity levels of loperamide in the body and cause cardiac complications
  • Concomitant use of this medication with inhibitors of CYP3A4 or P-glycoprotein can increase exposure to loperamide
