Medical Description

Ivadox Dry 50/ Syrup is an antibiotic combination used for certain bacterial respiratory tract infections affecting the sinuses, throat, airways, or lungs. It contains cefpodoxime proxetil, which blocks bacterial cell-wall formation, and clavulanic acid, which helps protect cefpodoxime from enzymes that can make bacteria resistant. The dry syrup is mixed as directed, shaken well, and used by mouth. It does not treat viral illnesses such as a common cold or flu.

Uses

  • Bacterial sinus infections: Infection in the sinuses may cause facial pressure or blocked breathing; this combination helps clear susceptible bacteria when prescribed.
  • Bacterial throat and airway infections: Cefpodoxime helps stop susceptible bacteria, while clavulanic acid helps preserve its activity against certain resistant bacteria.
  • Bacterial lung infections: This combination may be prescribed when a clinician identifies a susceptible bacterial infection affecting the lungs.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, cefpodoxime, clavulanic acid, penicillin, or another cephalosporin antibiotic, do not use it. Tell your doctor if you have had a severe antibiotic allergy, severe kidney disease, bowel inflammation, or liver disease.

Side effects

  • Diarrhoea: Antibiotics can disturb bowel bacteria and cause loose stools; seek medical help for severe, persistent, or bloody diarrhoea.
  • Vomiting: Stomach irritation may cause vomiting after the syrup; contact the prescriber if it prevents the medicine from staying down.
  • Nausea: The combination may cause queasiness around use; ask the healthcare professional for advice if nausea prevents fluids or food.
  • Skin rash: A new rash can signal sensitivity; get emergency medical help for breathing difficulty or swelling of the face, lips, or throat.
  • Headache: Head pain may occur during treatment; report a severe or unusual headache, especially with other allergic symptoms.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

Available human information suggests that little of this medicine passes into breast milk and harm is unlikely. Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding so treatment can be assessed.

Dizziness, allergic reactions or fits can make driving unsafe. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel affected.

Alcohol

Alcohol

Alcohol safety is not established for Ivadox-CV syrup. Ask your doctor before drinking alcohol during treatment.

Directions for Use

Shake well before use. Use the measuring device supplied with the pack and do not drink directly from the bottle. Prepare the dry syrup only as directed on its label, and use it within the stated period after preparation. It may be used with or without food; follow the prescriber's instructions, and use with food only if advised for stomach upset.

Storage and disposal

Store the dry powder as directed on the label, away from heat, moisture and direct sunlight. After preparation, follow the label instructions for storage and discard the remaining liquid when the stated period ends. Keep it out of reach of children.

Quick Tips

  • Shake the Ivadox-CV syrup bottle well before every use.
  • Use the measuring device supplied with the pack, not a household spoon.
  • Do not use Ivadox-CV syrup for a common cold or flu unless a bacterial infection is diagnosed.
  • Follow the prescribed treatment plan and do not save leftover syrup.
  • Seek help for severe diarrhoea, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty.

Dosage

Overdose

Taking too much of this medicine may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, or abdominal discomfort. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Cefpodoxime proxetil blocks formation of the bacterial cell wall, so susceptible bacteria cannot survive or multiply. Clavulanic acid blocks bacterial enzymes that can weaken cefpodoxime, helping the antibiotic work against certain resistant bacteria.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Ivadox-CV syrup works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, antacids and acid-reducing medicines can lower cefpodoxime absorption, blood-thinning medicines may need monitoring, and medicines that affect kidney function may increase unwanted effects. Tell the doctor before using other antibiotics or a live oral typhoid vaccine.

Interactions with food items

Ivadox-CV syrup may be used with or without food. Using it with food may reduce nausea or stomach upset if the prescriber allows this.
