Medical Description

Inrox Ax Tablets is a combination of Ambroxol and roxithromycin. Ambroxol belongs to class of medicines called mucolytic and roxithromycin belongs to the antibiotics class of medicine. Roxithromycin is an antibiotic belongs to a group of medicine known as macrolides. It interferes with the protein synthesis of bacteria, thereby inhibiting the bacterial growth and helps in reducing the infection. It is used to treat respiratory tract infections like sinusitis, tonsils etc. associated with cough and mucus. To avoid the side effects, carefully follow the instruction given by your doctor or pharmacist. You should not stop taking this medicine on your own even though the symptoms subside.

  • For the treatment of respiratory tract infections associated with cough and mucus.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to this medicine or any of the ingredients of this medicine. If you have low immunity due to other health conditions like HIV or other medicines used in chemotherapy If you already have lung infections like breathing difficulty, fever, blood stained mucus etc. If you are suffering from asthma If you are pregnant or breastfeeding If you have a liver or kidney problem If you are already taking medicines for migraine headache

How Does It Work?

Roxithromycin is an antibiotic belongs to a group of medicine known as macrolides. It interferes with the protein synthesis of bacteria, thereby inhibiting the bacterial growth and helps in reducing the infection. Ambroxol is known to thin down the mucus in the airway passages and makes it less sticky; this leads to the removal of the mucus from the airways. It also potentiate the antibacterial effect of roxithromycin. Collectively, these two ingredients helps in relieving symptoms of infection and cough.

Interactions with other medicines

  • The effect of blood thinners like warfarin is said to increase when used together with Inrox Ax Tablets
  • The effect of medications used to treat sleep related disorders like midazolam is increased when used with this medicine.
  • Medicine used to treat gastrointestinal problems like cisapride may interfere with the effect of Inrox Ax Tablets when used together.
  • The effect of Theophylline were increased when used together with Inrox Ax Tablets. So in case of treatment using high dose of theophylline precaution should be taken.
  • The use of medicines to treat migraine like ergot alkaloids with Inrox Ax Tablets can increase the risk of side effects when used together with Inrox Ax Tablets
  • The effect of antiallergic medicine like Terfenadine is increased and this may increase the risk of heart related side effects when used with Inrox Ax Tablets
  • Medicine used to treat the immune system like cyclosporin should be used cautiously along with this medicine
  • As Inrox Ax Tablets contains two components, any interaction seen with them when taken alone may happen with this combination. Discuss with your doctor about any other medicine, herbal preparation, and supplements you are taking currently to avoid any possible drug interactions
