Medical Description

Indactiv inhalation capsule is used regularly to control asthma, a long-term condition in which the airways become narrowed and inflamed. It contains a combination of indacaterol and mometasone furoate, an inhaled steroid. The indacaterol component relaxes the muscles around the airways, while mometasone furoate reduces swelling and irritation inside them. Indactiv inhalation capsule is breathed into the lungs through its prescribed inhaler device and is not a rescue treatment for a sudden asthma attack.

Uses

  • Asthma control: Indacaterol opens narrowed airways while mometasone furoate reduces inflammation, helping reduce wheezing, cough and breathlessness during regular treatment.

Contraindications

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy. The safety of Indactiv inhalation capsule during pregnancy has not been established, so your doctor will weigh the expected benefit against possible risks.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding. Indacaterol or mometasone furoate may pass into breast milk, so your doctor will decide whether this treatment is appropriate.

Directions for Use

Use Indactiv inhalation capsule only with the inhaler device prescribed for it. Place the capsule in the device, pierce it as instructed and breathe the powder in through the mouthpiece. Do not swallow the capsule. Rinse and gargle after inhalation. Use it regularly as advised, even when you feel well, and keep a separate rescue inhaler for sudden symptoms.

Storage and disposal

Store the capsules in their original pack in a dry place away from heat and moisture. Keep them out of the reach of children. Do not swallow the capsule or use it after the expiry date.

Quick Tips

  • Use Indactiv inhalation capsule regularly, even when asthma symptoms are absent.
  • Never swallow the inhalation capsule.
  • Rinse your mouth after each inhalation to lower the chance of mouth irritation or fungal infection.
  • Keep your rescue inhaler available for sudden breathlessness.
  • Learn the inhaler technique from a doctor, nurse or pharmacist.
  • Avoid smoking and stay away from known asthma triggers.

Dosage

Overdose

Too much may cause fast heartbeat, shaking, headache or worsening breathing symptoms. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

The airway-opening ingredient, indacaterol, relaxes the muscles around the air passages so air can move more freely. The inhaled steroid, mometasone furoate, calms inflammation and reduces swelling inside the airways. Together, these ingredients improve ongoing asthma control but do not relieve sudden breathlessness.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Indactiv inhalation capsule works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, beta-blockers may reduce indacaterol's airway-opening effect. Other airway-opening medicines, some antidepressants and heart-rhythm medicines may increase heart-related effects. Potassium-lowering medicines may worsen low potassium, some antifungal medicines may increase steroid exposure, and diabetes medicines may need closer blood sugar monitoring.
