Medical Description

Fucidin H cream is a combination medicine containing Fusidic acid which is an antibiotic and Hydrocortisone which is a steroid. It is used for the treatment of skin disease associated with swelling, redness, itchiness and dryness of the skin. It also treats bacterial infection of the skin caused due to this skin disease. It works by decreasing the formation and action of chemicals responsible for swelling, itching and redness of the skin. It also works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Burning, itching or irritation at the site of the application is a side effect of using this medicine.

Uses

Fucidin H cream is used for the treatment of skin diseases associated with swelling, redness, itchiness and dryness of the skin. It also treats bacterial infection of the skin caused due to this skin disease.

Contraindications

  • If you are allergic to Fusidic acid and Hydrocortisone or any of the other ingredients of Fucidin H cream.
  • If you are using this medicine for the treatment of rash around the mouth or redness of the eyes.
  • If you are using this medicine for the treatment of tuberculosis infection of the skin.
  • If you are using this medicine for the treatment of bacterial skin infection not due to any skin disease, fungal or viral infection of the skin.

Side effects

Pregnancy

Fucidin H cream is to be applied on topical surfaces and the quantities which might get absorbed from the skin is too little and there are rare chances of absorption. Still, this medicine should be used under medical supervision by a pregnant woman.

Breast Feeding

Fucidin H cream is to be applied on topical surfaces and the quantities which might get absorbed from the skin is too little and there are rare chances of absorption It should not be applied to the breast of breastfeeding mothers or elsewhere on large areas of skin or for a prolonged period of time

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if
  • You have blurred vision or other vision problems after using this medicine.
  • You have thin skin or have skin ulcers.
  • Raised intraocular pressure (glaucoma) may occur if this cream is applied near the eyes and it enters the eye by mistake, avoid applying near the eyes.
  • Prolonged use can lead to thinning of skin and skin damage.
  • Continuously using for an extended period, especially in infants and children, may cause hormonal issues, developmental and growth issues.
  • You have applied this cream, do not smoke or go near flames as it increases the chances of burns.
  • Prolonged use has to be avoided as it can cause dysfunction of the adrenal glands (adrenal insufficiency, Cushing's syndrome) leading to weight gain, hormonal issues, swollen face, skin thinning, etc.
  • Avoid using for more than 14 days, if your skin condition is not improving see your doctor.

Directions for Use

  • Use Fucidin H cream as directed by your doctor.
  • For external use only, apply it on a healthy skin surface free from cuts and wounds.
  • Wash your hands before and after using this medicine unless your hands are the area to be treated.
  • In case your eyes come in contact with this medicine rinse your eyes with clean water immediately.

Storage and disposal

  • Store Fucidin H cream at a temperature not above 30°c in a cool and dry place.
  • Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.

Dosage

Overdose

  • As Fucidin H cream is meant for external application cases of overdose is unlikely. However, upon accidental ingestion contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.
  • If you have applied extra quantities of it, wipe out the excess of the medicine with tissue or cotton.

Missed a Dose

If you have missed applying Fucidin H cream, apply it as soon as possible. Do not over-apply this medicine just to compensate for the missed dose.
