Medical Description

Fexoryl-M tablet is used to relieve allergic nose symptoms, hives and allergy-related airway symptoms, and to help prevent allergy-triggered airway narrowing. Its active ingredients are a combination of fexofenadine and montelukast. The antihistamine component, fexofenadine, blocks histamine, a body chemical that causes sneezing, itching and watery eyes, while montelukast blocks chemicals that can swell the nose and tighten the airways. Fexoryl-M tablet is swallowed by mouth and does not replace urgent treatment for a sudden asthma attack.

  • Allergy-triggered asthma prevention: Montelukast can help reduce airway narrowing and inflammation when allergies trigger breathing symptoms, but it does not treat a sudden attack.

How does this medicine work?

The antihistamine component, fexofenadine, blocks histamine, a body chemical that causes sneezing, itching, runny nose and watery eyes. The montelukast component blocks leukotrienes, chemicals that can make the nose and airways swell, tighten and produce extra mucus. Together, they reduce allergy symptoms and help prevent allergy-related airway narrowing.

Interactions

Some medicines can affect the way Fexoryl-M tablet works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, aluminium or magnesium antacids can lower fexofenadine absorption; erythromycin and ketoconazole may increase fexofenadine levels; phenobarbitone and rifampicin may speed removal of montelukast and reduce its effect. Ask your doctor how to space or manage these medicines.
