Medical Description

Feosip syrup is a nutritional supplement used to support iron, vitamin and mineral intake. It contains a combination of ferrous fumarate, cyanocobalamin, zinc sulphate, pyridoxine, vitamin C and folic acid. Ferrous fumarate supplies iron for haemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen; cyanocobalamin and folic acid support blood-cell development, pyridoxine supports normal blood and nerve functions, vitamin C can help iron absorption, and zinc supports normal body functions. Feosip syrup is taken by mouth and is not a substitute for a varied, balanced diet.

Dosage

Overdose

Excess iron can cause severe stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhoea or unusual drowsiness, especially after accidental use by a child. If you think you have taken too much of this product, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Ferrous fumarate provides iron, the main building material for haemoglobin. Folic acid and cyanocobalamin help cells, including blood cells, develop normally, while pyridoxine supports blood and nerve functions. Vitamin C can improve iron absorption, and zinc contributes to normal immune and tissue functions.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Feosip syrup works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, antacids and acid-reducing medicines can lower iron absorption, while iron can reduce absorption of thyroid medicines and some antibiotics. Other iron, folic acid, vitamin B12 or zinc products can also duplicate nutrients.

Interactions with food items

Tea, coffee, dairy products and calcium supplements can reduce iron absorption when taken close to the syrup. Follow your pharmacist's advice about spacing them.
