Medical Description
Escitalent plus tablet is a prescription medication commonly used for treating various anxiety and mood disorders. It is a combination of two medicines: clonazepam (0.5 mg) and escitalopram (10 mg). Clonazepam is a tranquilliser, and it belongs to a class of benzodiazepines. Escitalopram is an antidepressant, and it belongs to the SSRI ( selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) class of medicines.
Anxiety is a mood disorder that affects how you feel, and symptoms of clinical depression accompany it. The reasons behind it are mostly unknown. It can be caused by sudden triggers like stress, trauma, etc. Escitalent plus tablets help stabilise the mood by reducing the excess activity of nerves in the brain. It can also cause a calming mood and sedation effect.
The dose of Escitalent plus tablet should be carefully monitored in everyone, especially in older patients and patients with liver and kidney disorders. The dose should also be monitored because it can cause medicine dependency if you for a long duration. You should give your doctor medical history along with all the medications you are taking, as this medicine can interact with many other medicines and have undesirable side effects.

Contraindications
The Escitalent plus tablet has clonazepam and escitalopram. Clonazepam functions by increasing the action of GABA, which is a chemical messenger in the brain. GABA lowers the abnormal or excessive activity of nerve cells in the brain. It is responsible for the sedation properties of this medicine. However, Clonazepam does not affect the levels of GABA in the brain.
Escitalopram increases serotonin levels in the brain by blocking its reuptake by nerve cells. Serotonin is a hormone responsible for stabilising the mood, causing happy feelings, etc. It can also help in other functions like sleeping, eating, and digestion.
Side effects
- Do not take the Escitalent plus tablet if you have any of the following conditions without notifying your doctor.
- If you are allergic to any of the components of Escitalent plus tablet
- If you have a history of alcohol or medicine addiction, mental health disorder, depression, etc.
- If you are pregnant.
- If you are breastfeeding.
- If you are already using other anti-anxiety or sedatives, as they can interfere, they can cause adverse reactions.
- If you are driving, it can impair your driving ability.
- If you have acute angle glaucoma.
- If you have liver disease.

- Not enough studies are done on this medicine’s safety in children below 18 years of age. Doctors might prescribe it if the benefits outweigh the risks.
Directions for Use
- Take the Escitalent plus tablet in the exact dosage and at the same time every day.
- Do not exceed the dosage, even if you cannot feel its effects.
- Take the tablet as a whole with a glass of water.
- Do not break or chew this tablet.
- Do not take it with other medications without informing your doctor.
- Do not suddenly stop taking this medication, as it can have adverse effects.

Overdose
- Escitalent plus tablet overdose can cause symptoms like dizziness, tremors, agitation, convulsion, nausea, vomiting, sodium and potassium electrolyte imbalance, sleep disturbances, confusion, hypotension, increased heart rate, diminished reflexes, and coma. If you overdose on this tablet and experience any of these symptoms, immediately seek emergency medical treatment from a nearby hospital.
Missed a Dose
If you have missed a dose of Escitalent plus tablet, take it as soon as possible. If you remember missing a dose when it's already time to take the next dose, then skip the missed dose and take the next one. Talk to your doctor if you have any confusion about it. Do not take both doses together as it can cause an overdose.
