Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

  • Dubinor ointment contains gabapentin, diclofenac and methyl salicylate as its active ingredients.
  • Gabapentin binds to certain proteins in the body and causes a reduction in pain.
  • Diclofenac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicine (NSAID) that blocks the action of a chemical called cyclooxygenase. Cycloxygenase is responsible for the production of a substance called prostaglandins that cause pain, redness and swelling in the body.
  • Methyl salicylate is a counter-irritant that is also responsible for blocking the action of cyclooxygenase. It relieves the underlying muscle and joint pain and discomfort.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Since Dubinor ointment is to be used externally on the skin, it is less likely to interact with other medicines.
  • However, consult your doctor if you are taking other medicines for treating other health conditions.
  • Particular care should be taken if you are using medicines to treat high blood pressure (furosemide, losartan, benazepril), anxiety/pain (fentanyl, phenobarbitone).
  • The use of Dubinor ointment with other medicines to be applied on the same skin area should be avoided.
