Medical Description

Dns solution for infusion is an intravenous fluid used for short-term replacement of water and salts after dehydration, fluid loss or trauma, and it can provide glucose when blood sugar is low. It contains dextrose, a simple sugar that supplies usable energy and contributes to fluid replacement, and sodium chloride, which replenishes sodium and chloride needed for fluid balance. Together, these ingredients help restore circulating fluid and selected electrolyte losses under medical supervision. Dns infusion is given into a vein by a doctor or nurse in a hospital or clinic.

Uses

  • Dehydration: The infusion replaces body fluid when illness, sweating or poor intake leaves the body short of water.
  • Fluid loss after trauma or illness: Dns infusion helps replace fluid lost through injury, vomiting or diarrhoea under medical supervision.
  • Sodium and chloride replacement: The solution restores selected body salts needed for fluid balance, nerve signals and muscle activity.
  • Low blood sugar: Dextrose supplies sugar that can raise blood glucose when medically required and monitored by healthcare staff.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, corn-derived products or sodium chloride, do not receive Dns solution for infusion. It may be unsuitable when severe fluid overload, very high blood sugar, severe sodium imbalance or extra sodium or fluid could worsen your condition. Tell your doctor if you have a condition that affects fluid or electrolyte balance.

Side effects

  • Stomach pain, nausea or vomiting: Fluid or sugar changes may upset the stomach; tell the medical team if vomiting continues or prevents drinking.
  • Headache, dizziness or blurred vision: Changes in glucose or electrolytes can affect how you feel or see; alert the nurse promptly.
  • Dry mouth, sore throat or chills: These symptoms may occur during treatment; tell the medical team if they persist or are accompanied by fever.
  • High blood sugar or electrolyte changes: Dextrose or salt shifts may cause thirst, weakness or confusion; blood tests and urgent reporting help guide treatment.
  • Fluid overload or infusion-site irritation: Swelling, breathlessness, pain or redness near the vein needs immediate attention from the nurse.

Quick Tips

  • Tell the medical team if you have diabetes or kidney disease.

  • Alert the nurse if the vein becomes painful or red.
  • Allow blood sugar and electrolyte checks when requested.
  • Tell your doctor about all fluids and medicines you are receiving.

Dosage

Overdose

Too much Dns infusion may cause fluid overload, high blood sugar, swelling, breathing difficulty or electrolyte changes. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

The dextrose in Dns solution for infusion supplies glucose for energy and contributes to fluid replacement. The sodium chloride provides sodium and chloride, which help maintain fluid balance and support nerve and muscle function. Together, they replace selected fluid, salt and energy losses.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Dns infusion works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, insulin and other diabetes medicines may need adjustment because dextrose can raise blood sugar; corticosteroids may also raise it, while diuretics, medicines that retain sodium or water and other electrolyte treatments can alter fluid or salt balance.
